If you cast your mind back to February 2020, you'll remember when Netflix officially announced a second season of their hit crime drama Top Boy.

Lots has happened in the last 12 months, with lockdown and covid-19 which forcing many TV shows to pause production until it was safe to start shooting once again.

Well, Netflix has confirmed that Top Boy is in production and is set to debut on the streamer later this year.

In February last year, Netflix confirmed the renewal on Twitter, writing: "Confirmed: Top Boy s2 is happening!!", adding that production was originally set to begin in spring 2020.

It also confirmed that key characters Dushane and Sully, along with new faces on the Summerhouse block, Jamie and Shelley would be returning.

In 2019 the London-based drama was rebooted by the streaming giant after two successful series on Channel 4, returning to screens for a third overall season in October that year.

That's a pretty long break for Top Boy fans but you should all know that the brand new episodes will soon arrive on Netflix.

In the most recent season, Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson reprised their roles as 'Dushane' and 'Sully', Shone Romulus returned as 'Dris' and Ashley Thomas as 'Jermaine', while UK grime stars Dave and Simbi Ajikawo 'Little Simz' also joined the cast.

The 10-part series saw Dushane return to London to reclaim his throne in the drug market, teaming up with his long time collaborator and friend, Sully, who had returned from prison.

However, they were now faced with competition, as young and ambitious gang leader Jamie (Michael Ward) had taken his own slice of the market, with no plans to give it back without a fight.

Back in December 2020, Ashley Walters and Kano took to Twitter to announce that cameras had started rolling on the new series. Filming is still happening around London.

Hotline Bling rapper Drake will return as an executive producer.
