One woman's horrifying TikTok story has inspired other users to cancel their dates with potential Hinge, Bumble, and Tinder matches after googling their names.
It's not big news that dating apps are full of weirdos, and for most of us the vetting process is already pretty rigorous.
But this woman's recent video has sent shivers down our spines and inspired us to go full FBI mode before our next date night.
Using a trending sound on TikTok, user @shainakaycardwell told followers that a last-minute Google search of her match prompted her to call off the whole date, and with good reason, too!
Watch the video here:
Miming along to a trending sound on the app, Shaina wrote: "When I was about to go on a Hinge date and decided to Google him and saw he was arrested for aggravated kidnapping."
Shocked viewers quickly rushed to the comments to share their horror.
Taking note, one TikTok user wrote: "Google Hinge dates before u meet up w them."
Another commented: "TikTok really said don't redownload Hinge."
When she was plagued with questions about what happened next, Shaina made a follow-up post, writing: "I told him I realised I actually wasn't ready to date again yet and then proceeded to block him on all social media platforms."

Other users revealed that they, too, have been doing background checks on their dating app matches, and were eager to share the shocking results. One user wrote: "No shame. I do a Google check & sometimes a background check."
Another added: "When me or my friends start talking to a guy we do the full [DBS] checks. We are detectives."
Looking back on her previous investigative work, one TikTok user recalled: "Pls a guy who begged me to date him who I turned down I googled later only to find he was arrested for attacking a UPS worker at his house."

Another commented: "This happened to me last week, when I Googled his name and saw he had an arrest for larceny... we don't talk anymore."
"Girlll, not me seeing a picture of my Hinge date on the news 2 years later for murder."
That's it. Get the laptops out, girls. It's time to investigate.
