Katy Perry finally addresses ‘really hard’ breakup from Orlando Bloom
Katy Perry has opened up about what it was really like ending her nine-year-relationship with Orlanda bloom, as she reflected on the difficult time in her life.
The ‘Firework’ singer, 41, and British actor, 49, first got together in 2016 and got engaged in 2019, before welcoming their daughter, Daisy Dove, in 2020.
But despite getting engaged, the pair never actually tied the knot and, six years after Bloom popped the question, they confirmed their split in July 2025, while the singer was on tour in Australia.
Reflecting on that period of her life, Perry told PEOPLE Magazine: “It was probably the hardest time. My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away. But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”

She added: “I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?”
“I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece - then it showed up.”
Gushing over her new romance with the former Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, 54, Perry told the outlet: “I got to meet Justin on tour, and then things shifted.”
For those who need a reminder, Perry was first linked to the politician in July 2025, when they were spotted enjoying dinner together in Montreal, Canada.
Then came the concert appearances and those loved-up yacht snaps, revealing that the pair were in fact a couple.
Perry is a big believer in manifestation, and during her interview with PEOPLE, she even pulled out the receipts of how she wished their relationship into reality.
She pulled out a list she penned last August and said: “No. 10 just says, ‘True Love.’ And I think that’s where we’re at.”
In December 2025, Trudeau and Perry officially hard-launched, making them arguably the most unexpected couple of the year.
The singer posted a carousel of Christmassy images to Instagram, including a sweet selfie of her and Trudeau, and a video of them eating sushi together.
Fans went wild in the comments, writing: “The way they look at each other in the 4th slide” and “This is the biggest hard launch in history, cutiesss.”
Bloom, meanwhile, spoke out about his and Katy’s split back in September 2025.
Speaking to Today's Craig Melvin during a TV appearance, he was asked: "There's been some personal changes in your life since you were here the last time. How are you doing?"
The actor responded: “I'm great, man. I'm so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter. You know when you leave everything on the field like I did in this movie? I feel grateful for all of it."
He added: "And we're great. We're going to be great. Nothing but love."
The former couple are co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove, who turned six-years-old in August.
