Instead opting to pick a feline star for this year's telly ad, the supermarket has had cats lining up the block in the hopes of bagging its new titular role of Mr Grumbles.
From gigantic Maine Coons to tiny little kittens, ASDA is currently seeing kitties of every variety, whose owners all think they're up to the job.
The supermarket says it is looking for a cat with personality, who can act both "grumpy and sullen" and "jubilant and joyous" at the flick of switch.
Discussing the campaign, Eilidh Macaskill, Vice President of Creative and Media at Asda, said: "We want to make this Christmas the most extra special Christmas yet, so we're pulling-out all stops to ensure we bring a little magic to screens, with the help of Mr Grumbles."
Cats of all breeds, ages and size have been encouraged to audition for the role, which will begin filming in mid-September.
And it could be your kitty's big break, seeing as previous Christmas ads have catapulted their lead characters to stardom, with cuddly toys and merchandise also being produced in their image.
Outside the audition venue, cats were pictured with their excited owners, all of whom hoped they'd be the kitty that impressed producers.
Some cats were pictured on leads, while others were being held in cages as they waited for their shot at stardom.
ASDA is always on top of their game with Christmas adverts, being the first to unveil their festive offering last year.
The 2018 ad, named Bring Christmas Home, saw Santa launching a flaming Christmas pudding into the air, dancing skiers and snow covered mountains as it packed in pretty much every festive trope under the sun.
We can't wait to see Mr Grumbles in a few months time!
