A diagnosed sociopath has opened up about what it’s really like to live with the taboo condition, including the key signs to look out for that you’re dealing with one.
Australian influencer Kanika Batra, 39, told LADBible Stories that she got a diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) and narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) when she was 21, following 16 months of evaluation by a forensic psychiatrist.
According to Health, people who have both NPD and ASPD are known as ‘narcissistic sociopaths’.
Having both personality disorders is rare and can be hard to identify, and there’s no separate official diagnosis for this condition.

Listing the typical characteristics of both sociopaths and psychopaths, Batra explained that they’re ‘very charismatic people’.

She told LADBible Stories: “You will never realise you're dating or dealing with a sociopath or a psychopath because we are very, very well-versed on being appropriate and being seen in the correct light and behaving correctly, if you will.”
The influencer also explained that ‘optics’ is a sociopath’s strongest game, despite ‘not having empathy’.
She continued: “We know what you're thinking. We know how you're feeling. We just don't really care, but we'll pretend to care because we know that makes you happy, and that makes you able to want to be our friend and do things for us.”
Secondly, Batra describes sociopaths as ‘very, very callous’ and quick to cut people out of their lives when they’re no longer ‘useful’.
She explained: “So, sometimes you'd think people will be like, 'How could you just cut someone off after knowing them for 10 years?’ And it's just, they were not useful to me anymore, so I don't see any purpose in keeping them around.”
Third, according to Batra, sociopaths have an ‘ability to pathologically lie and manipulate people for absolutely no reason, out of just either enjoying it or, let's say, they get some minor perk from it’.
Fourth, they ‘don't have any empathy,’ as she explained: “Our empathy is so, for me at least, when I see people crying, I have no internal reaction.”

She brutally continued: “Honestly, it just kind of annoys me. I just kind of hate it.”
Which led her to the fifth and final telltale sign, which is ‘not having any sort of guilt’.
Batra admitted: “So, I've never really felt bad about anything that I've done. And I think that guilt is a toxic emotion that is designed to control people, and it controls society.
“It's probably useful in general because if we all lacked guilt, we would be in a very dangerous and horrifying world, and we don't want to live in that.”
She also went on to explain the ‘mask’ that sociopaths and psychopaths have to ‘put on to be acceptable to society’.
No, we’re not talking about a literal mask - it’s about being ‘charming, funny, and relatable to people’.
Batra explained: “It's hiding any traits of envy, jealousy, rage, contempt. It's a very strong emotion that we feel, and that is rage and contempt. And that is very, very hard to actually suppress on a daily basis.
“And so, when we wear that mask, we show you a form of a person that we know is societally successful.”
