Luther Fans Convinced Ruth Wilson Will Return As Alice In Netflix Film

Luther fans have an inkling we haven't seen the last of murderer Alice Morgan.

More than two years have passed since Luther aired its nail-biting season 5 finale, which included the death of two major characters.

Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) shot DS Catherine Halliday (Wunmi Mosaku) in the head in a shocking twist, before the genius research scientist also presumably died.

During a chase with Luther in an empty building site, she plummeted to the floor from the scaffolding above, seemingly making the end of the pair's cat and mouse chase forever.

After series star Idris Elba confirmed the hotly anticipated Netflix film continuation was officially in production, fans have an inkling we haven't seen the last of Alice despite the dramatic death scene.

One fan responded to Idris' tweet with a snapshot from Alice's 'death', writing: "Well of course she’s not dead… right?"

Another Twitter user echoed this sentiment, adding: "100 per cent nope - she ain't. Just had to look up a quick reminder of what happened in Season 5 but no she's not gone. The big man should poll it and see what we think."

They added she might have escaped in the back of a van. "She wasn't out whilst the squad was focused on Luther she's picked one of them off taken the clothes and is now in the back of the van with him perhaps?"

While a third account replied: "The best news I got today. I assume Alice is still alive cos without Alice there’s no Luther."

On the other hand, a few Luther fans believe Alice is dead but suggested she could make an appearance in flashbacks or in personal appearances to Luther from beyond the grave

"She’s back in flashbacks as his ‘pricking conscience’ I reckon," theorised on Twitter user.

They complimented the show's realism and argued Alice's death was real. "Alice would most likely not survived that fall and they would rush to find her as much as Luther," they said.

It should come as no surprise fans expect to see Alice in the film, after she faked her own death in series 4.

After the episode was broadcasted in January 2019, fans took to Twitter to air their suspicions. "They tried to convince me Alice Morgan was dead once before. Not having it," one Twitter user said.

While another viewer claimed there was no blood and Alice was not seen again after her 'death'.

Netflix confirmed Luther's return in September, along with the announcement of new cast members Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis. Ruth's name was not included in the announcement for the film, which will be written by series creator Neil Cross.

A release date for the Luther film has not been announced.
