We've often thought being a food delivery driver comes with a hell of a lot of temptation. Imagine it being your job to pick up delicious meals and delivering them from place-to-place, as mouth-watering smells waft from your holdall...
It must take restraint not to pinch a cheeky spring roll or a few chips, especially if you didn't manage to squeeze in dinner before your shift, but we'd hope drivers would be able to hold back, in the name of professionalism and all.
Wrong. It turns out, some delivery drivers are actually succumbing to the temptation and dipping their hands, with a whole 28 per cent of them admitting to have taken food from a customer's order.
SAY IT ISN'T SO.
The study surveyed 497 adults who identified as having worked as a deliverer for at least one food delivery app.
Furthermore, it found 54 per cent of delivery drivers said they were often tempted by the smell of the food they deliver to customers, without acting on it.
The study into food delivery habits and attitudes, carried out by US Foods, also spoke to 1,518 adults who said they had used delivery apps between 9th and 13th May.
It also found that 60 per cent of drivers complained about receiving little or no tip, while 39 per cent complained the customer's delivery instructions were not clear.
It's worth noting the study was carried out in the US, quizzing participants who used American services such as UberEats Postmates, GrubHub and DoorDash, but it's fair to assume it translates reasonably well over UK delivery habits.
Except maybe the drivers complaining about not getting tips, considering its more of a custom over in the US.

Still, this has made us feel a little bit uneasy. Thanks survey.
