It's the moment we've all been waiting for: a first trailer for Robert Pattinson's new The Batman movie has just dropped - and it looks so good.

You can watch it below:

The trailer kicks off in Gotham City, in the early days of Batman's career. We see The Riddler (played by Paul Dano) leaving a trail of very eery clues for Batman, with Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis) - Bruce Wayne's butler - saying: "You're becoming quite a celebrity... Why is [The Riddler] writing to you?"

Crime in Gotham City is on the rise and in the teaser we're also introduced to a few main characters - Jeffrey Wright's James Gordon and Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman.

As it's only two years into Batman's emergence, many of the characters are still developing (for example, Selina Kyle is not yet Catwoman).

Speaking about Rob as Batman, director Matt Reeves said: "The thing about Robert Pattinson is he's an incredible actor. He's also this tremendous fan of Batman just as I am. It's been great to share this excitement with him. He looks like Batman but has the soul of someone who could play Batman."

The trailer has a very dark and eery vibe, with many fans commenting on the actor's new look - especially him debuting a smoky eye.

One person wrote: "Robert Pattinson giving us the perfect emo batman we deserve."

While another said: WE GOT OURSELVES AN EMO BATMAN I love Robert to death ex-emo teens rise up!!!"

Another tweeted: "Ok but.. Robert Pattinson as an emo Batman is kinda ..." followed by two drool emojis, while one added: "Yeah sex is cool but have you heard Robert Pattinson's Batman voice?"

It's fair to say fans cannot wait for the new movie to drop, but as it's expected to arrive in cinemas in October 2021, we've still got a while (sob).

It was originally tipped to be arriving next June, but naturally, the pandemic has caused a slight delay.

"Can't believe I have to wait to watch Robert Pattinson be extremely hot and emo in the new Batman movie," said one.

Let's just hope there'll be a few more of these teaser trailers to tide us over in the meantime!
