The Love Hypothesis viewers complain after key Adam and Olive detail is left out of film

After what's felt like an eternity of waiting, fans have finally been treated to the film adaptation of The Love Hypothesis, which landed on Amazon Prime yesterday (23 September).
Anyone on BookTok will no doubt know that the shiny new rom-com is actually adapted from the novel of the same name by Ali Hazelwood in 2021.

The film stars the likes of Tom Bateman as Dr Adam Carlsen, Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith, Rachel Marsh as Anh, Jaboukie Young-White as Malcolm, Nicholas Duvernay as Jeremy and Arty Froushan as Tom.
The plot follows Professor Dr Carlsen and PhD student Olive as they enter a fake relationship to put their theories about love to the test - making The Love Hypothesis the latest rom-com to play on the beloved 'fake dating' trope, following in the footsteps of The Proposal, Off Campus and To All the Boys I've Loved Before. Now, while fans were buzzing to sink their teeth into the new flick, many couldn't help but notice a major detail from the book which was missed in the film.
In the book, readers see Adam pine for Olive for years before they come up with the 'fake dating' plot, but in the film, such a plotline was nowhere to be seen.
"I watched Love Hypothesis & ofc liked it. But saw people saying Adam was secretly in love with Olive all along. Now why would they cut that? I wish it was a series. I lowk wanna read the book now," penned one X user.
A second chimed in: "Not adding Adam being in love with Olive for years upsets me sm!! But I would still think in my head that it's like that!! Because yk what, it was the core plot."
"One thing I hated after watching The Love Hypothesis movie was that they never revealed that Adam was pining after Olive for 3 years before they started fake dating. Like come onnn, that was the best part everrrrr."
A fourth echoed: "I read The Love Hypothesis a zillion years ago so the only thing I remembered going into the movie was that Adam was secretly in love with Olive for years and they left??? That??? Out ??? Bro…"
"Love Hypothesis was SO good; I loved every second. I only wish it showed how Adam had been in love with Olive since the moment they had basically met and had been losing his mind over her since," commiserated another.
And a final social media user added: "They removed the best scenes. The reveal that he was hopelessly in love for two years? I can go on and on!"
