It’s official: the internet is seriously confused after Hailey Bieber shocked fans by claiming Justin Bieber, her famously Canadian husband, is actually French.
Rhode Beauty has officially landed in France, expanding at Sephora—and its founder recently appeared on the popular French talk show Quotidien to promote the skincare line’s milestone moment.
The mother of one, 29, used the opportunity to explain everything she loved about the capital city, citing how much she ‘loved’ the romance and fashion of Paris.
“There’s such a good energy to the city. I think France is a beautiful country,” Hailey continued.

The beauty guru then dropped a major bombshell, revealing: “My husband is French, so I love that as well.”
The model was immediately questioned on the validity of her statement: “He is French, yes. He’s from Canada but he’s also French. His family is French.”
Is Justin Bieber French?

Justin Bieber, a recipient of a prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Canadian government, was born in Ontario and raised in Stratford, Canada.
His mother, Patricia Mallette, is of French-Canadian descent, and he previously attended two French-language immersion elementary schools.
Over the years, the ‘Yukon’ singer has shown off his basic knowledge of the French language. Once, he sang a song in the language for a fan and even spoke a little on The Ellen DeGenerous Show.
However, the star has never claimed to be fluent, nor has he ever proudly pronounced himself as French.
“Canada's the best country in the world”
Early on in his career, Justin hailed Canada as the ‘best country in the world’, highlighting its healthcare system.
"Canada's the best country in the world. We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills,” he told Rolling Stone in 2011.

"My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home.”
Fans debate how ‘French’ Justin Bieber really is
Naturally, Hailey’s surprising confession has divided social media users, with many questioning if she can really claim that her husband is French.
“As a Canadian...he's what now? He may have some French ancestry but, culturally? No,” claimed one Reddit user.
A second said: “I live in Québec and that's kind of a ridiculous take lol we dont go a century behind when we say what origin we're from.”
“Being Canadian and having ancestry in France doesn't make you part French. No one in Quebec would believe that, not even in the rest of Canada. Not a single french person would lol I'm amazed that this would even cross a person's mind,” someone else remarked.

“And it doesn't even have to be just about that. It's like saying you're part English because you're American. Or part Spanish because you're Mexican. It makes absolutely 0 sense lol it's actually mind bogglingly funny.”
Others have jumped to the businesswoman’s defence, with one social media user typing: “I think she's talking about him having French-Canadian origins through his parents.”
Another said: “Yeah like The Weeknd is Ethiopian ethnically even though his nationality is Canadian.”
“Well, if his family is from Quebec, he technically does have French in him,” a third said.
Justin Bieber’s favourite film sparks split rumours
Last month, the ‘Baby’ hitmaker made headlines about his favourite movie choice.
During a joint interview with W Magazine, the 32-year-old claimed his go-to flick was The Break-Up, starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston as a couple whose relationship crumbles after becoming strained over time.

Fans were quick to speculate what this may mean for Justin and Hailey—but others believed the online reaction was ‘weird’.
“Justin said his favourite movie is the break up and everyone in the comments are saying that’s weird,” one fan said via X.
“He is soo funny sorry,” another person quipped.
"Listen, I love these two but these answers are insane," a third added.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “The Break-Up is actually a good movie, so why are people using that movie to harass Justin? Your fave could say 365 is her favourite movie and yet y’all wouldn’t bash her for that. Y’all ain’t their haters, y’all are his fans atp.”
“Hey, this does not work for me”
Hailey has previously discussed the impact that breakup rumours could have on her marriage and how they may affect their son, two-year-old Jack Blues Bieber.
"I was so not confrontational before," she told the publication.
"It was not easy for me to express things that bothered me or when people were pushing or stepping over boundaries."
She added: "And now I just feel so much more clear about, 'Hey, this does not work for me.'"
