For fans of the original series of Sex and the City, its reboot, And Just Like That, is just not the same.
While it’s intriguing to see how Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte are finding life and love in their fifties, a fundamental part of the show is missing: we really want Samantha back.
Kim Cattrall’s well-documented feud with Sarah Jessica Parker has meant the sex-mad PR is notably absent from the series, with the show explaining that Carrie and Samantha fell out when Carrie sacked her as her publicist, resulting to Samantha taking a job in London.
But fans were delighted to see Samantha pop up again in that latest episode of And Just Like That, as Carrie mentioned a funny moment about their former friendship on her podcast.
Speaking on X,Y and Me, Carrie told her co-hosts about the time Samantha helped her get her diaphragm out after it got stuck.
She decided to text Samantha to let her know she had been talking about the incident, to which Samantha replied: “One of my finest hours.”
When Carrie said she hoped that Samantha was okay with her telling the story, Samantha replied with her usual charismatic wit: “Of course. I love that your vagina is getting air time.”
And fans loved having Samantha back – even if it just through the medium of texts - with everyone finding the moment hilarious.
Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Miss Samantha Jones wasn’t even present but her performance is still the best.”
“Only time I smiled and laughed that whole episode,” said a second, while a third agreed: “Just shows how needed her character is and how pivotal Kim [Cattrall] was to the show.”
“The text messages from Samantha are by far the highlight of And Just Like That so far,” wrote a fourth, and a fifth said: “The most compelling moment in this season of @AndJustLikeThat is the 30 seconds where Carrie texts Samantha and waits for a text back. That says everything about how much this show needs #KimCattrall back.”
Writers have previously expressed an interest at seeing Kim return to the show if And Just Like That does return for a second season.
But Kim herself has suggested she’s less keen to return to the franchise.

And Just Like That continues Thursdays on Sky Comedy and NOW.
