A waitress has been accused of ruining a person's pregnancy announcement after a restaurant mix-up involving bills.

It is fairly common for people who are pregnant to indulge in alcohol-free spirits, cocktails and beers while they are out.

Gone are the days where an orange juice was required, and then you'd get asked question about why you are not drinking.

Anyway, this one waiter got into a spot of bother after serving virgin cocktails in a big group.

Brooke Steinschifter (@brooke.steins) took to TikTok to explain the situation and asked her followers if they thought she was in the wrong.

Watch it below:

In the video, she defends herself, arguing that the situation was just a simple mistake.

So, the story starts with Brooke serving a large table of around '15 or 17 people' who she described as being nice.

She noticed that a couple of women in the group were not joining in the boozy fun, but didn't think anything of it.

Brooke claims that the women didn't want anyone to know that they were not drinking, so non-alcohol cocktails and alike were chosen off the menu.

The waitress said that the women would wink at her, so she wondered whether one or both of the women were pregnant.

Anyway, when the night came to an end, things got a bit complicated for Brooke in regard to splitting the bill.

Brooke explained how two women were drinking virgin drinks.

With so many alcoholic drinks alongside the virgin drinks, it was going to be difficult to split the bill to the right people without anyone finding out the two women had been on virgin drinks all night long.

Brooke said: "When I was splitting the bill I slipped up and I accidentally put a virgin drink on a bill that wasn't meant for the person that I gave it to.

"So I actually gave someone a bill that had a virgin mojito on it and she got a mojito, so that's where it didn't register in my brain."

Brooke explained she simply put the virgin drink on the wrong bill and tried not to make a big deal out of it.

But of course, someone then asked at the table who had been drinking the virgin drinks.

Next, Brooke said that her manager came over to her and said the woman was 'so upset' as the pregnancy announcement had been 'ruined'.

A woman on the table reportedly said: "Now everyone on the entire table knows she's pregnant because you gave somebody the wrong bill and it's just super unprofessional."

In the comments section of the TikTok, people were quick to defend Brooke.

One person said: "Deffs not your fault. They go out drinking with their friends is their own risk of getting caught."

A second added: "HOW WERE YOU SUPPOSED TO KNOW SHE WAS PREGNANT ur not a mind reader

And a third said: "Bartender and server here: they could’ve played that off any other way. You were smooth asf."
