Has life felt a little off-balance lately, with misunderstandings, travel delays, and communication issues wreaking havoc?
Well, it’s not just you; there’s actually a reason for it - the dreaded Mercury Retrograde is back once again.
That’s right, starting on Saturday (24 September), due to an optical illusion, the planet Mercury is appearing to move backwards across the sky, with the period lasting until 13 November.
Astrologers and the more spiritual among us believe that, all the way from Space, this phenomenon has a drastic impact on our lives down on Earth.

Tyla spoke with Clarisse Monahan, Soho House’s resident astrologer, who revealed what we can expect from Mercury Retrograde in Scorpio, and which Zodiac signs will be the most affected.
Monahan explained: “Each year the Universe, in a mildly sadistic manner, sends us three Mercury Retrogrades: pesky little transits that last a few weeks.
“Whenever a planet goes retro, it looks like it’s moving backwards in the sky from our view on Earth. This ‘backward’ motion means the planet’s influence on us gets warped, inverted or distorted.”

The astrologer continued: “For example, when Venus (love, beauty) goes retrograde, we may struggle more in the romance department.
“In the same way, when Mercury reverses, as it will from 24 October to 13 November, we tend to have issues with its themes: communication, travel, contracts and cargo, to name a few.
“This makes sense. In mythology, Mercury was the only god who could travel through every level of the ancient cosmos, from Olympus to Earth to the dark realm of Hades.
“And the word “merchant” comes from Mercury, who was worshipped as the god of the market, and so of exchange, trade and commerce. Any form of travel or transport falls under the Messenger Planet.”
On a personal level, Mercury Retrogrades also tends to cause problems with ‘speaking, negotiating, buying and selling, signing documents and messaging’.
So, maybe hold off with any big life movements like signing a new job contract or moving house until 13 November.

Monahan warned: “You may find that deals fall through, your new winter coat gets lost in the post, or you’re misunderstood more than usual. These aren’t life-changing problems, just annoying little ones.
“But while they’re frustrating, retrogrades can stop us from rushing our life choices. You can use it to review, rethink, reword, and rework how you approach romance, communication or spirituality.
“So there are two sides to this Mercury Retrograde: passive and proactive. On the passive side, expect more gaffes, flubs, and mix-ups. On the proactive side, you can use it to choose your words carefully, kindly, and wisely. Think twice about travel plans, and hold off on rash online shopping.”
As for who will feel this Mercury Retrograde the most, the astrologer has cautioned that it will hit Gemini, Virgo, and Scorpio the hardest.
She explained: “Gemini and Virgo are ruled by Mercury, so when it goes retrograde, it’s personal. And Mercury is retrograding in Scorpio, so Scorpios feel it too.”

And if that’s not enough, there’s another turbulent twist in this particular Mercury Retrograde, as Venus, the planet of love, beauty and connection, is also retrograde until 13 November.
This planetary illusion is ‘known for bringing people from the past back into our lives’.
Monahan outlined: “Think of John Cusack in High Fidelity, tracking down his exes to find out what went wrong.
“With Mercury and Venus Retrograde together, we want to understand why things happened. If someone ghosted you, this could be when you finally get closure. Sometimes it comes as a message from that person.
“Sometimes it comes on its own: you wake up one morning and realise you just don’t care anymore.
“If you’re the one who did the ghosting, this might be your moment to reach out and give that person closure. Or write the letter and burn it. This retrograde is all about letting go.”
