When Sammy Evans found a lump near her ribs, she simply put it down to the extra ab exercises she was doing in the gym.
She had no idea that 24 hours later, she’d become a mother of two, after welcoming a newborn baby she didn’t know was coming.
The 41-year-old appeared on ITV’s This Morning on Wednesday (21 October) alongside her partner Triston and their surprise arrival, baby Noah, to tell the incredible story of what happened.
She explained that she found herself feeling ‘heavy,’ ‘dry’ and a ‘bit odd’ in her lower half, and so got a smear test done to eliminate anything serious, which all came back fine.

Sammy said: “It carried on a bit longer, and I thought, enough’s enough; I need to go and get it looked at. I explained the symptoms to the doctor, and she said, ‘Let’s do some tests; let’s see what it is, it could be a UTI’.
She also mentioned how she hadn’t had a period in a long time, but this wasn’t abnormal because she’d lost a lot of weight - 10 stone in total.

The mother-of-two outlined: “I had a lump, a long one - a bit like a fat tire if that makes sense. When I got a new PT, I was doing a lot of ab work, and I thought, ‘Oh gosh, why did I do this? It looks even worse than it did before.’”
Sammy recalled how she ‘didn’t think anything of it’ because, of course, you expect a baby bump to be round.
She went back to the doctors, where she did a UTI test and pregnancy test. The UTI test came back positive, but the pregnancy test was negative, with a very faint positive line.
Sammy told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepherd how the doctors said that if she was actually pregnant at that stage, with the dates matching up, the line should be ‘glowing’.
So, she went home, took an antibiotic for her UTI, went to her ‘water aerobics class like normal,’ but then was woken up in the night with stomach pains, which she thought were just period pains.
Sammy was driven to the hospital by her dad, where she discovered that she was in fact pregnant.
However, even then, she thought she might still have a few months until giving birth; that was until the pain intensified and she was told she was in labour.
Sammy already had a 10-year-old and her partner, Triston, a 16-year-old, so they had no plans to have more kids, and baby Noah was quite the surprise.

She explained: "When I gave birth to him, I was still very much in pain; I had stitches and things like that. I was like, 'Oh gosh, I've had a baby,' but I'm still in horrendous pain, so I didn't get a chance immediately to be like, 'Oh I've had a baby'.”
Sammy added that her friends and family have been left ‘shocked’ by the story, and ‘can't fathom’ how she’d been completely unaware of the pregnancy.
Her friends are now organising a baby shower for her following the little one’s arrival.
The ITV show explained that what Sammy had experienced was a cryptic pregnancy, which is when someone is pregnant but remains completely unaware of it, sometimes until labor begins.
Dr Sara Kaya outlined on This Morning that one in 2500 don’t recognise they’re pregnant until labour, while one in 475 only recognises it after 20 weeks.
She said: “It’s an unusual thing, but it does happen, and some people just get no symptoms at all.
“Some people, because of the shape of their torso or because of how strong their abdominal muscles are, or just because of the way the pelvis tilts in the womb, it can mean that bump just doesn’t get shown until much later on.”
