A pug named Bobby has found his forever home after he was dumped by his owner in a plastic bag.

The five-week-old pup was brought to Coolronan Dog Rescue shelter in Ballivor, County Meath after a passer-by heard his cries and discovered him in the plastic tote in Flower Hill in Navan.

The Irish dog shelter revealed on Facebook that the adorable pooch, who appeared emaciated when he was found, has been nursed back to health and found his forever home with Chris Kelly, who runs the dog rescue.

Although more than 600 members of the public requested to adopt him, Chris became inseparable from the dog and couldn't let him go after forming a strong bond.

Announcing on the social media platform, the dog shelter wrote: "So just a little update on Bobby. He's doing amazing and is now flying around on his back legs and has put on a lot of weight (not surprising as he eats everything).

"Anyway the big news is that Chris has decided he's keeping him after been overruled by females for the last 14 years he now finally has a male on his side."

They added that the bond between the two is "so sweet" and Bobby has been welcomed with open arms to their "mad gang".

They continued: "I kind of knew in my heart after a few days that he wouldn't be going anywhere. So welcome Bobby to our mad gang."

According to the Irish Mirror, Chris has been running the rescue shelter with Ramona Cunningham for 13 years and together they have rescued around 150 dogs.
