A new supernatural drama called Warrior Nun has landed on Netflix, and it's going to be a hit with fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

The 10-part series only landed on the streamer a week ago, yet fans of the genre are already praising it and comparing it to the hit nineties Sarah Michelle Gellar show.

Inspired by the Manga novels, Warrior Nun centres on Ava Silver (Alba Baptista), a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a "divine artefact" embedded in her back.

"[Ava] discovers she's now part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her," says Netflix.

As well as Portuguese newcomer Baptista, the series stars Tristán Ulloa (Father Vincent), Toya Turner (Shotgun Mary), Thekla Reuten (Jillian Salvius), Kristina Tonteri-Young (Sister Beatrice) and Lorena Andrea (Sister Lilith).

Fans who have binged the entire series in one are making comparisons with Buffy and other supernatural series.

"Warrior Nun is somewhere between Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Da Vinci Code, Supernatural. You would all love it," wrote one fan, giving high praise.

"As someone with a deep attachment to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, let me tell you, Warrior Nun is REALLY doing it for me," said another.

Others have been loving the fierce female characters - something we can totally get on board with here at Tyla.

"Damn this show #WarriorNun took me by surprise. it's basically nuns fighting. sounds cool af right? the lead characters are all women and so badass. There's a perfect mixture of humour and drama.. I loved it," said one satisfied fan.

"Warrior Nun is full of badass women and I'm here for it," wrote another.

"I'm enjoying Warrior Nun. Just women being bad ass okay?" chimed in a third.
