Netflix is breaking tradition with the upcoming season of Bridgerton and fans should be very excited.
Filming has just wrapped on season five and the new tales will follow Lady Francesca Stirling (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza).
The last time fans saw the couple that will lead season five, they were rocked by the death of Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli) which left Francesca widowed and Michaela without her confidant.
Francesca is the sixth Bridgerton child and the third daughter. She is described as one of the more quiet ones and has an interest in music and solitude. She spent much of her life before season three away from London and when she enters society, she does so reluctantly however she is drawn to John Stirling.

Now a young widow, she embarks on a relationship with Michaela, Lord John Stirling’s extroverted cousin.

There will be a two-year gap between seasons four and five and fans will see both women explore a whole new chapter as well as the show’s first starring same-gender love story.
What’s more, fans won’t have to wait as long as they previously have for the new season. In previous years, new Bridgerton seasons have arrived two years following the previous one. After Bridgerton graced our screens for the very first time in 2020, season two debuted in 2022. Seasons three and four, which were each split in two parts, aired in the summer of 2024 and winter 2026. However, Netflix is breaking this two-year tradition and will air season five early next year.
“Netflix is finally speeding things up with Bridgerton back-to-back yearly releases for the first time? The fans definitely earned this one,” one fan remarked on X.
Fans are already excited about the chemistry between the two actors. “I am so happy and completely trust them to tell this story with the utmost respect,” a viewer on Reddit gushed.
The two characters also have a ship name. “We’re so blessed with them as our Franchaela,” another fan declared.
A third person wrote: “I really love how much Hannah enjoys this storyline and is so passionate about queer representation.”

An excited viewer also shared: “All their interviews are so damn buzzy. This got me unbearably hyped for the s5 press tour.”
We won’t have long to wait!
Series show runner Jess Brownell has teased some details about the new season and why having a ‘queer love’ story is so groundbreaking.
“We are still always grounding our love stories in the fact that this series is about joy,” Brownell told Tudum. “And more than ever, Season 5 is going to be about yearning. Those of us who know what it’s like to be in a sapphic relationship or have a sapphic crush understand that’s so baked into the experience.”
Yearning is the keyword for season five, with Brownell further teasing: “If there’s anything really specific about this season, it’s the yearning. It’s big-time yearning. It’s going to be a season about queer joy. It’s not going to be a season about queer trauma. We’re having so much fun!”
