One long-standing rumour among The Hunger Games fans has been that Jennifer Lawrence deliberately made her on-screen kisses with Liam Hemsworth a little less romantic by tucking into garlic and tuna beforehand.
During a 2014 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hemsworth revealed that his co-star would eat some pretty pungent snacks. According to him, sometimes she would tell him she hadn't brushed her teeth. “But if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was disgusting,” he said.
Lawrence has insisted the garlic breath was never a calculated sabotage. She later explained during a 2023 appearance on Hot Ones, where she maintained that her food choices were innocent, explaining: “It was just, like, what I was eating, and then we'd kiss!”
She also joked that Hemsworth should get over it.

And yet the rumour has followed Lawrence for years and she’s once again addressing it, this time on the Call Her Daddy podcast.
When asked by host Alex Cooper why she would eat such pungent food items before locking lips, the Oscar winner replied: “I didn’t!”
“I don’t even know what to say, Liam,” she continued. “We are filming for many months and filming takes a lot of time. He made it seem like that’s just something I did on purpose. Like, I would just eat tuna.”
When Cooper directly asked if the Die My Love star is a fan of tuna, she replied: “I do. I love tuna salad. Tuna melt.”

But Cooper said that loving tuna is ‘controversial’ and warned that Lawrence was on the verge of being ‘cancelled’ again.
Lawrence’s love for tuna is just one of the stories from the Hunger Games era that she has resisted recently. The mum-of-two is set to return to the dystopian universe in the upcoming action film The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping alongside Josh Hutcherson as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark respectively.
“It was unbelievable,” she told the podcast, explaining how ‘crazy’ it felt reuniting with the same crew and camera operators.
“Josh and I didn’t walk to the bathroom without our arms around each other,” she said. “It was so beautiful.”
She also revealed the most ‘brutal’ piece of acting advice she’s ever had and it relates to The Hunger Games.

“My mom at the premiere of The Hunger Games said she could tell in every scene when I had my period,” she said.
She continued, “Water retention, I guess. Imagine a day of me being on camera that doesn’t go through my mind.”
When Cooper reacted by ironically suggesting that the actress was ‘so scarred’ she would never act while on her period again, Lawrence jokingly replied: “I’ll only be able to film for about 20 days.”
Turning to her mother’s role in supporting her career, Lawrence said, “She’s the person I’m so excited to tell exciting news to.”
In other news, Lawrence recently launched a new haircare brand mes°.
