Actress Sophia Bush revealed how she clashed with One Tree Hill producers when they insisted she ‘look topless’ for a hot tub scene.
Appearing on Call Her Daddy on Wednesday, Bush explained to host Alex Cooper she was shooting a scene for series one where her character Brooke Davis tricked Lucas Scott, played by actor Chad Michael Murray, into breaking into a stranger’s yard to use the hot tub.
The actress, who was 21 at the time, said she was told producers wanted her to ‘look topless’ in part of the scene by wearing a nude bra, which is where the clash began.
“I was like, ‘no, I want a bathing suit top,’” she told Cooper.

“And they were like, ‘no, you're supposed to look topless.’ I'm like, ‘but it's a nude bra. It's literally just gonna look like my breasts are out in the water on screen.’”

The star, who is taking part in the reboot of the television series, currently in development, explained what it was about the demand that really affected her.
“Wardrobe was like, ‘I don't know what to tell you,’” she said.
“’This is from the producers in LA.’ And I was kind of like, I'm saying no and you're saying no to me, and it's my body.
“It was sort of a straw that broke the camel's back, because there were more and more and more of these very expository scenes.”
It was then that Bush described how she left the show’s management with an ultimatum: “I literally said to my boss, I go, 'Keep writing these scenes. I dare you. I'm gonna start coming to set every day in a turtleneck.'”

This podcast interview was not the first time Bush had opened up about this issue. In 2019 she told Ashley Graham’s Pretty Big Deal podcast that a boss kept writing scenes of her in her underwear and that she turned up in a turtleneck ‘to be spiteful.’
Fans of the show took to the social media platform X to comment on the interview, mostly in support of Bush.
One said, “some people should really learn to respect other people's decisions.”

A second said, “Imagine arguing with an actress about her own body and thinking you’re the one in charge. The turtleneck threat was legendary.”
Bush recently starred in the comedy movie Summer’s Last Resort released in July and Broad Trip released in May. She recently released her memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.
Previous movie roles include John Tucker Must Die (2006), The Hitcher (2007) and a voice role for Incredibles 2 (2018).
She is, however, best known for her television roles including playing tough detective Erin Lindsay in Chicago P.D., Dr. Sam Griffith in Good Sam, and Dr. Cass Beckman in Grey’s Anatomy.
