Everything We Know About 'Hocus Pocus 2'

Hocus Pocus was the ultimate Halloween film when we were growing up - and tbh, it arguably still is.

But now, we don't have long to wait until the sequel, Hocus Pocus 2 arrives, after being confirmed last year. Naturally, we can't contain our excitement, so we've rounded up every last detail so you can join us in our joy.

What will Hocus Pocus 2 be about?

The Disney+ sequel will be a follow up to the first film in which teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) accidentally awakens three witches, by lighting a cursed 'candle of black flame'.

As fans of the movie will know, Max doesn't believe "in all that hocus pocus" - but he soon does, when witches Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Mary (Kathy Najimy) are awoken from the depths of hell.

Determined to become immortal, the witches - also known as the Sanderson sisters - are hellbent on sucking the life out of as many children as possible.

Also starring in the first film was Thora Birch, as school girl and Max's little sister, Dani and Vinessa Shaw as Allison - who accompanies the siblings on their quest to trap the witches and burn them alive.

While a specific plot for the sequel hasn't yet been announced, we're guessing it will focus on the Sanderson witches awakening from hell once again - but what chaos that will bring, we will have to wait and see.

Who will star in Hocus Pocus 2?

Obviously, in an ideal world the *entire* cast would be back on our screens for an epic reunion - but that certainly hasn't been confirmed just yet.

However, in autumn last year, SJP revealed on Instagram that she, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy had all said yes to returning.

Responding in a comment to one of her followers who asked if there was "any chance of a sequel" she said: "We have all said yes. Now we wait. X"

Yaaaaassss. Okay it's not confirmation, but it's very close, right?

Meanwhile, Adam Shankman has been announced as the film's director. The 55-year-old has directed the likes of Hairspray, Rock of Ages and A Walk to Remember. He's also working on the Enchanted sequel for Disney.

Adam took to Instagram to share the news yesterday, writing: "Yep... Thanks with all of my heart dear @disney.

"Looks like [I'll] be working on a looooooottttt of magic for awhile... I feel incredibly honored and humbled to be guiding forward these two Disney crown jewel legacies.

"My only hope is to honor those who came before me and build something new and exciting, as I desperately try to not let down the fans and enchant the new initiates! Fingers crossed!"

There's been no word about other members of the cast returning, but we can hope.

What have people said about the sequel?

Sarah Jessica Parker also spoke about reprising her role, back in 2016.

On Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen she said: "I would love that [...] I think we've all been fairly vocal about being very keen, but that hasn't created any ground swell of movement."

SJP isn't the only one to have spoken about her desire to return as a Sanderson sis.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight Bette Midler said: "Oh my goodness me. Oh I hope they get to me before I'm a corpse.

"We wanna fly again. I hope Disney+ is a big success and I hope we get to do it, because [Winifred] is of course one of my favourite characters."

It's thought the sequel could hit Disney+ this year (Credit: Disney)

She added that the three often discuss reuniting. "We actually talk about it whenever we see each other," she said.

"We laugh, we say, 'Oh, wouldn't it be great if?' Because all of us had pretty much the same experience on it."

When will Hocus Pocus 2 be released?

While it's not currently known when the film will be released, it's likely it will be timed around Halloween.

We've got our fingers crossed it'll be Halloween 2020 which means just a matter of *months*. It will launch on streaming platform Disney+ which will arrive in the UK on 24th March.

Just *another* reason to sign up then...
