Earlier this month, we brought you the news that filming had officially begun on the new Tracy Beaker series, and now the BBC has released some first-look images of Dani Harner as our favourite fiery protagonist.

Pictured alongside her curly-haired daughter Jess, this is the first official character image from My Mum Tracy Beaker and it's got us so excited for when the show actually launches!

The show, which is due to air next year and is based on the Jacqueline Wilson book of the same name, opens up a new chapter in Tracy's life - being the best (and sometimes most embarrassing) mum in the world.

Told from the perspective of 11-year-old Jess (Emma Davies), the heartwarming story will show the pair's financial struggles, which they manage to navigate thanks to their extremely close bond - one which Tracy missed out on with her own mum.

We'll also meet Tracy's rich new boyfriend Sean Godfrey, played by Joran Duvigneau - a retired once-successful footballer who has had a thing for Tracy since they were young.

As expected, the mother and daughter duo get swept up in a life of expensive cars and huge mansions, but as they say, money can't buy happiness, and things soon start to go terribly wrong.

Dani Harmer says: "Words can't describe how excited I am to bring Tracy back! I'm just like all the fans and have been desperate to find out what Tracy has been up to and where her next journey is going to take her.

"It's been so lovely to work with some familiar faces too.

The script is brilliant and I think the audience is going to love where the story goes.

"Filming during 2020 has been interesting for sure, but it's been amazing to watch all the talented cast and crew adapt and be very creative with getting the job done. As an industry we can deal with anything if we put our minds to it. And we're proving that it can be done!"

So who will be starring alongside Dani and Emma? Well expect some familiar names, as Tracy's adopted mum Cam (Lisa Coleman) is back, as is Tracy's birth mum Carly (Ruth Gemmell) as well as her nemesis Justine Littlewood (Montanna Thompson).

The original CBBC series was a hit with millennial kids and tweens, and made central cast member Dani famous.

Dani first appeared in The Story of Tracy Beaker in 2002. The series followed a ten-year-old girl living in a children's residential care home nicknamed the "Dumping Ground".

While an air date for the new series is yet to be announced, you can enjoy a blast from the past by catching up with all the vintage episodes of Tracy Beaker on iPlayer now.
