Men Are Sharing What Puts Them Off Women On A First Date

Note to self: put your phone away.

Men have taken to to Reddit share their awkward dating stories and the reasons why they refused to go on a second date with a woman - and the reasons may surprise you.

A Reddit user started a new discussion in the Ask Men thread by posting the question "What’s something a [woman] could do on a first date that guarantees there will not be a second."

One of the most popular answer from men regarding what annoyed them the most about going on dates is when women spend lots of time on their phone.

One man responded to the question with: "She has her face buried in her phone constantly."

Another man responded with an anecdote from one specific date who definitely had a lot on her plate and we're not talking about food. "I went on a date with a woman who spent half of our date on the phone talking to debt collectors and the other half bragging about how much she was getting from her ex in child support payments," he explained.

While another man also said he found using your phone during the date a turn-off, if the phone use is explained beforehand and happens only a few times, he may give them a pass. "If she's basically on it the whole time, I totally agree. But if she pulls it out for a minute here and there because she has something going on that she explains at least a little bit I'm cool with that. Gives me some time to think of more conversation topics."

The other popular response was talking about an ex-partner during the date. While it's not unusual to mention why your last relationship ended, some men think talking about your old relationship may put them off asking you for a second date.

"Won't stop talking about her ex," one man wrote.

Another man responded to this comment, adding: "This. Had a date once that felt more like a therapy session. If you aren't over your ex then don't go out until you are."

Being rude to staff at restaurants was also a common response from the men in the thread, with one man recounting when his date accused him of trying to flirt with a waitress. "I was nice to a waitress at one of my favourite restaurants—somewhere I was a regular. She accused me of trying to hook up with 'the help' on a date. Probably the most mutual decision of my life."

Similarly, a second commenter replied: "Bad attitude with waiters."

Asking about a man's salary and expecting the man to pay for the date is also a huge no no if you want to meet again after the first date according to the thread. One Reddit user said asking about how much money he makes "would not only guarantee no 2nd date but also instantly end the current one."

And body odour also puts a lot of men off from arranging a second date with women. "She was so hot that I thought the smell was a fluke so we went out again and she smelled even worse," one man said. "Like wet dog. Couldn't do it."

Much to think about.
