Elliot Page gives sad career update following his role in The Odyssey
Elliot Page has revealed that he’s not getting the huge career opportunities you’d expect following his role in The Odyssey.
The 39-year-old Canadian actor played the role of Sinon in Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster, alongside other huge names like Zendaya, Matt Damon, and Tom Holland.
Following the success of the movie, the star sat down for a new hour-long interview for Kevin McCarthy’s On Film podcast, where he discussed feeling more comfortable in roles after he came out as a transgender man in December 2020.
During the podcast episode, the host Kevin excitedly asked: “Do you know what you’re doing next? Have you already started looking? Because I can imagine you’re getting a zillion calls after this movie?”

Page laughed as he responded: “No, Kevin, I’m not. So, if someone wants to call me? I know I get some pushback for being Canadian; I don’t know what it’s about.”
Taken aback, the host asked: “Really, so you don’t have a project lined up at the moment?” to which Page confirmed: “Not really.”
The Umbrella Academy star went on to clarify that he doesn’t want to take a break and instead would ‘really love to do good work'.
Page compared his time filming The Odyssey to when he appeared in another Christopher Nolan movie, Inception, as Ariadne, before his transition back in 2010, and explained that it was a ‘full-circle moment’.
The star explained: “When you do ask me about Ariadne, I had such a great time working on that movie, but I was also personally really uncomfortable.
“Whereas, a part like Juno, I was able to feel a bit more comfortable and embodied.”
He added: “But now, I feel like because that’s removed, and I don’t have to deal with that when I’m acting in my performances, I do feel like I could do some of my best work now.
“I’m not having to like literally work through a performance that I don’t even quite know I’m doing, to get to a performance.”
The actor recalled: “So the feeling and experience of walking onto a Chris set this time… when I wrapped on The Odyssey, I had a moment; there was a full-circle moment.
“That’s what lets you weirdly let go more. Knowing yourself more and embodying yourself more weirdly lets you let go more.”
Page shot to fame starring in the 2007 movie Juno, which earned him an Academy Award nomination, before he went on to become part of the main Umbrella Academy cast.
In March 2021, he became the first openly transgender man to appear on the cover of Time Magazine, and released his memoir Pageboy in 2023.
In it, the star admitted to feeling a lot of 'shame' about his identity, confusion about his path, and how it all led to him finding his truth.
"Shame had been drilled into my bones since I was my tiniest self, and I struggled to rid my body of that old toxic and erosive marrow,” he wrote.
At the time of his transition in 2010, he penned a letter to his social media that read: "Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life."
