Nicole Kidman shares heartbreaking reason she felt 'lonely' after Oscar win

Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking reason why she felt so 'lonely' after her Oscar win back in the 2000s.

The Hollywood A-lister, who is currently promoting her latest project, Practical Magic 2, took home the prestigious award in 2003, winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her incredible performance as Virginia Woolf in The Hours.

While revelling in the career milestone, the achievement came with a bittersweet realisation, with Kidman sharing exactly why in the latest episode of the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast alongside her Practical Magic 2 co-star, Sanda Bullock.

"I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely. Crazy, though, that confluence of events?" she explained.

"I had, like, I have my mum with me and my dad, but I was like, where's my partner? Where's someone that I can share this with?"

"It was like one of the most profound moments where I went, 'I've got to get a life!' And at the same time, I'm holding this gold statue where you go, 'This is it.' The highest sort of prize you can get in our industry, and so grateful. And yet, so lonely."

The Babygirl actress recalled that the Oscar win made her focus more on her personal life, following her split from her then-husband Tom Cruise the prior year in 2001.

A few years later, Kidman met country music star Keith Urban and tied the knot in 2006.

The pair went on to welcome two daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret.

She previously adopted two children, Isabella and Connor Cruise, with Cruise.

Kidman and Urban finalised their divorce in January of this year after nearly 19 years of marriage.

Kidman's decade-spanning career has bagged her several major accolades, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, six Golden Globe Awards, and two Primetime Emmy Awards.

Her latest project sees her reunite with Bullock for Practical Magic 2, nearly 30 years after the first Practical Magic, which hit our screens back in 1998.

The upcoming sequel will see Gillian Owens (Kidman) and Sally Owens (Bullock) come together once again in an attempt to break the spell that has prevented their bloodline from finding true love for centuries.

The sequel will also welcome new cast members including Maisie Williams and Joey King, who are set to play the next generation of the beloved Owens family.

Practical Magic 2 is set to release in UK cinemas on Friday, September 11.
