The Gentlemen has viewers making same observation about Love Island presenter Maya Jama’s role

The new season of The Gentlemen has welcomed a very special guest star and viewers are already singing her praises.

The hit Guy Ritchie Netflix series returned to screens this week for its highly anticipated second season, bringing back plenty of familiar faces alongside some exciting new additions to the cast.

Maya Jama is stepping forward into the acting world and judging by the reaction, she’s already the audience’s type on paper.

The Love Island TV host is behind the character of Aisha, who is the wife of one of Eddie Horniman’s (Theo James) criminal associates, Prince Amir bin Abdullah al-Hadidi (Amra Mallassi). She only makes a couple of appearances on the show, in episodes one and four, but it's enough to make a lasting impact on viewers.

So much so that fans have taken to social media to heap praise on her performance, with many admitting they’re shocked to discover she’s a talented actress. It seems Maya doesn’t have to put all her eggs in the TV hosting basket, with viewers now calling for her to branch out into acting even more.

"Since when could Maya Jama act," one viewer wrote on X. "Two episodes into The Gentlemen and I’m actually surprised, she’s not terrible."

Another fan praised the TV presenter, writing: "Maya Jama starring in The Gentlemen season 2. She's a good actress."

With Maya Jama already one of the biggest draws of season two, viewers were eagerly anticipating her appearances and hoping to see plenty more of her on screen. But for lots of viewers, her new gig arrived like a bombshell.

"Maya Jama in [The Gentlemen] Season 2 was not on my bingo card for this year," another fan confessed. "That [woman] is just getting deals deals deals, What a [WOMAN]!!!"

It's safe to say that fans won't be dumping Maya's character anytime soon after coupling up with her in her new acting era. She previously revealed her had to audition for the role and said acting had always been on her to-do list.

When asked about working with Guy Ritchie, Maya praised him and said he provided reassurance.

"He’s really kind and nice," she told Variety. "He doesn’t feel as intimidating as you’d think, being who he is. He’s very personable and he would be like, ‘Yeah, you’re doing well’, and reassure me, which was really nice."

She added: "He’s just really involved and kind of a genius to watch, because everyone’s practising their lines and then he says something that’s way better than the original. You just feel like you’re in the presence of greatness.”

Reality TV fans will be pleased to know that despite pursuing acting, Maya has no plans to step away from her ITV hosting gig. Speaking to the same publication in January, she spoke about her future on the show and how long she'll stick around for.

"I don’t know, but I have no plans to leave yet," she said. "But with a show like Love Island, it just feels like it keeps growing and I’d be silly to leave now. It’s not my whole life and it’s fun, so I think as long as I enjoy it, I’ll keep it up."
