Who is John-Paul Miller’s new wife Suzie Skinner? Inside her life after Death of the Pastor's Wife Netflix documentary

A new Netflix true-crime series has put the story of pastor John-Paul 'JP' Miller and his late wife Mica back under the spotlight, after Death of the Pastor’s Wife landed on the streaming service last week (26 August).

The three-part docu-series revisits Mica’s life, her marriage to JP and the events surrounding her tragic suicide in April 2024.

The series also delves into the cyberstalking and false statement charges JP was indicted on in 2025 - both of which he has pleaded not guilty to.

And while much of the attention is focused on Mica’s story, viewers have also been asking about Suzie Skinner, the woman JP went on to marry after Mica’s death.

Who is Suzie Skinner?

Suzie Skinner is a South Carolina woman who previously married Christopher Skinner, a disabled Army veteran who later became an author, counsellor and motivational speaker.

The pair had two children together.

Suzie reportedly worked as a physical therapist in Myrtle Beach and is understood to have met Chris through his rehabilitation after he became paralysed from the neck down in a car accident involving a drunk driver, PEOPLE reports.

Suzie and Chris were also connected to JP through the church community in Myrtle Beach.

JP later presided over Chris' funeral when he died.

What happened to Suzie Skinner’s first husband Chris?

WPDE reports that Chris died in September 2021 after he was found unresponsive in a neighbourhood swimming pool in Myrtle Beach. He was taken to hospital but died as a result of drowning. His death was initially treated as an accident.

Police later said Chris had been alone at the pool and that investigators had exhausted their leads.

Authorities found no probable cause to bring criminal charges, and the police investigation was closed again in March 2025.

There was still a separate development, though, as the Horry County Coroner’s Office reopened questions around the manner of Chris’ death after officials said new evidence had come to light.

At the time, that examination was still ongoing. No one had been charged, and officials had not publicly determined that Chris’s death was anything other than accidental.

When did Suzie Skinner and John-Paul Miller get married?

Suzie and JP eventually became a couple and married in Myrtle Beach on 1 June 2025, just over a year on from Mica's death.

Their relationship quickly became part of the wider scrutiny surrounding JP, given the deaths of both of their previous spouses.

There have also been claims that the pair were involved romantically before Chris died - though these allegations remain disputed, and have not been established in court.

JP has also rejected the claim that he was romantically involved with Suzie while Chris was alive, saying the pair only started dating in January 2025.

JP has also not been charged in connection with either Mica’s or Chris' death.

He is currently facing separate federal charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators, to which he has pleaded not guilty and maintains his innocence.

Where is Suzie Skinner now?

Suzie is now married to JP and has largely remained away from the public eye.

Her June 2025 wedding is the last major development involving her, while much of the ongoing attention has focused on JP, the circumstances surrounding Mica and Chris’s deaths, and his federal case.
