Netflix viewers spot eerie detail in Death of the Pastor’s Wife doc as case shocks nation

Viewers of Death of the Pastor’s Wife are looking deeper into Mica Miller’s journals following the release of the three-part Netflix docu-series.
The series has sparked renewed interest in Mica's 2024 death following her split from husband John-Paul 'JP' Miller, which was ruled a suicide.
Her journals are among the personal material featured in the series, alongside home videos, text messages, footage from JP's church services and interviews with Mica’s loved ones.

One handwritten note included in the documentary contains an allegation from Mica that she had been abused 'in every way I can think of' - emotionally, sexually, spiritually, financially and physically. JP denies all allegations and has never been charged in connection with her death.
The filmmakers used an ‘archive’ of information that was left behind by Mica, including her own journals, with permission from her family.
One page in the journal featured in the documentary appears to show a to-do list and 'prep', including calling the IRS and getting an affidavit.
Co-director Julia Willoughby Nason told Tudum the entries 'really showed the most private and interior part of her, which her family was open to us working with to bring her to life.'
One viewer speculated on X: "This does not seem like a list made by someone who is planning to end her life. She was ready to expose him."
The docu-series, which landed on the streamer on 26 August, examines Mica’s life, her relationship with South Carolina pastor JP Miller and the events surrounding her death in April 2024.
Mica met JP at Solid Rock Church when she was a teenager, before the pair married in 2017. Their relationship eventually broke down, and Mica attempted to leave the marriage.
Her loved ones discuss their concerns about the relationship in the documentary, alleging that it became increasingly controlling and toxic. The series also explores allegations that Mica was stalked and harassed during her attempts to leave.
In April 2024, Mica served JP with divorce papers. Two days later, on 27 April, the 30-year-old was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina.
Before her death, Mica called 911 and told the operator that she planned to take her own life. She asked for the call to be traced so that her family would be able to find her body.
The North Carolina Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Mica’s death a suicide caused by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Death of the Pastor’s Wife does not claim that Mica was murdered. Instead, the series examines the allegations and concerns raised by her family while acknowledging the official ruling on her death.
Mica’s loved ones continue to search for answers and have questioned the circumstances leading up to her death.
JP was indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2025 on two charges: cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators.
The cyberstalking charge alleges a pattern of harassment between November 2022 and Mica’s death, including tracking, repeated calls and texts, alleged vehicle tampering and the sharing of an intimate image.
He has pleaded not guilty.
The trial has been delayed several times and is now scheduled for the October 2026 term while JP, who remarried in 2025, remains free on bond.
