New Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma is provoking a pretty powerful reaction in people, making them want to throw away their phones in favour of a technology free life.

The film, which calls itself a "documentary-drama hybrid", delves into the world of social media and how our internet usage and search history are being used against us.

The show's synopsis reads: "This documentary-drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations."

In the two-and-a-half-minute long trailer for the show, we're given a glimpse into how teams of engineers are literally hired to use our psychology against us.

"What I want people to know is that everything they're doing online is being watched, is being tracked, every single action you take is carefully monitored and recorded," says a voiceover in the trailer.

Scary AF.

An expert goes on to reveal that Google is not just a search engine and Facebook is not just a space to see what your friends are doing, but so much more.

Technology designers such as the co-inventor of the Facebook 'like' button and the former president of Pinterest, as well as those working for Google, Twitter and Instagram feature on the film.

"A whole generation is more anxious, is more depressed," one expert chimes in, while another discusses a platform they once thought was 'a force for good'.

"I don't know if I feel that way anymore," he adds.

And now social media users have taken to, ahem, social media to air their views on the shocking doc.

"My mind is blown. The Social Dilemma on Netflix is crazy," said one user.

"Omg I just watched the social dilemma and I kinda wanna delete all my socials, throw away my phone and live in the woods for the rest of my life," said another.

A third wrote: "Just finished The Social Dilemma and the real dilemma is should I throw my phone into the ocean or into a fire?"

A fourth, however, saw the irony in posting about the dangers of social media, on social media.

"Watching "the social dilemma", it's good, makes me want to throw my phone in the drawer. But here I am, tweeting about it instead," they wrote.

While another said they felt immediate anxiety after watching the film and that they were now worried they were being watched.

"Don't watch The Social Dilemma ... immediate anxiety I'm ready to throw the whole phone away i feel scammed and like someone's watching me all the time."

We're with you all tbh. Throwing our phones away rn.
