My Life With The Walter Boys casts real ages compared to their characters’ ages might leave you shocked

A popular Netflix teen drama returned this month, but fans have been left stunned by one detail: the cast are nowhere near as young as their characters.

My Life With the Walter Boys focuses on 16-year-old Jackie Howard (played by Nikki Rodriguez) who moves from New York to rural Colorado after the death of her family. She is taken in by the Walters, a family of seven sons and one daughter.

Although the change is tricky at first, Jackie finds herself growing closer to Cole Walter (Noah LaLonde) a former high school quarterback, and Alex Walter (Ashby Gentry) the calm and scholarly middle child.

While the series is all about the highs and lows of coming of age, first love and teenage drama, there’s one detail that has left fans doing a double take: the cast are considerably older than the characters they play and some of the age gaps are seriously surprising.

It’s basically become an internet talking point for a lot of shows: actors playing characters who are way younger than they actually are. Sometimes, you can totally buy that they’re meant to be high schoolers. Other times… not so much.

However, fans of the Netflix drama, which debuted in 2023, were shocked to learn the real ages of the cast. Nikki Rodriguez is 34 in real life and her birthday is reportedly in July 1992. The actress has never explicitly confirmed her age publicly.

Fans have had a hard time believing Rodriguez’s real age. “34? Yeah No. More like 23,” one fan commented on Instagram.

“Manifesting to look as good as Nikki at 34,” another viewer commented.

“Welcome back Glee,” a third person quipped.

“Until she confirms it herself, I refuse to believe she’s 34. There’s no way,” said a fourth fan.

Fans couldn’t get over the age difference, with one asking: “How does Jackie look so young?”

Another was equally stunned by her age, admitting: “I cannot imagine she’s in her mid-thirties.”

Not everyone was convinced the reaction was warranted, though. Some commenters flipped the conversation entirely, questioning why everyone was so shocked that a 34-year-old could look young.

“Why we all acting like 34 is shockingly ancient is what I wanna know,” one user wrote, signing off as “sincerely, a ‘93 kid.”

Meanwhile, Noah LaLone, who plays 17-year-old Cole Walker, is 28 in real life. His on-screen brother, 16-year-old Alex, is played by 27-year-old Ashby Gentry.

Corey Fogelmanis, who once starred alongside Sabrina Carpenter in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World, is 26. His character in the Netflix drama, Nathan Walker, is 15 years old.

And Mya Lowe, who plays 16-year-old Kylie, is 25 in real life.

“Oh my, they look so young,” one shocked fan marvelled.

“How are they all adults? I really thought they were teens,” another user wondered.

“Ngl I thought they were literally mostly teenagers/younger adults in their 20s,” a third user admitted.
