Matthew McConaughey makes rare appearance with family as one detail sparks debate
Matthew McConaughey and his family stepped onto the red carpet together this week but fans couldn’t help focusing on one detail.
The True Detective star, 56, attended a screening of his film The Rivals of Amziah King in Austin on Tuesday with his wife, Camila Alves, 43, and their three children, Levi, 18, Vida, 16, and Livingston, 13. While the family put on a united front for the event, one particular detail about their appearance quickly caught fans’ attention.
Fans are debating on social media whether the couple’s eldest child Levi looks more like his mum or dad.
On Reddit, where the red carpet pictures were reposted, one fan said: “That oldest one is a perfect match for the two of them. All good looking kids.”

However, someone else replied: “Kiddo on the left looks so much like his mum in all the best ways. Honestly, beautiful fam.”
A third Redditor commented: “Were his genes even trying?”
But some fans argued that Levi looks exactly like his dad. “His son took his whole facial structure and hair. Impeccable genetics.”
Another commentator argued: “I think he looks spot on like Matthew, just more tan.”
Meanwhile, a lot of fans said Levi resembles both of his parents. “Omg the children are so beautiful and the perfect mix of both them!!!”
McConaughey has been opening up about fatherhood as his three children grow older and his approach to parenting has clearly evolved alongside them.
In a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, the 56-year-old actor shared how he communicates with his teenagers, explaining that sometimes being “less of a dad” and more like a “big brother” can help them open up.
The Magic Mike star said he has found that asking open-ended questions can encourage his children to talk more freely helps, rather than simply asking how they are doing, he might ask something broader.
For example, he might ask: “What’s it like being a teenager these days?”
He also stressed the importance of listening without judgment and said he tries to create an environment where his kids feel at ease talking to him rather than worrying about how he might react.
He told Drew Barrymore: “Coming into the teenage years, I’ve had to almost be less of a dad in ways, be less judgmental to sit on it and listen, then they keep sharing.”
In March, McConaughey sat down with Willie Geist for Sunday Sitdown, where the actor reflected on working alongside his teenage son in The Lost Bus.
Levi has begun carving out his own path in Hollywood and he made his acting debut in The Lost Bus where he played his father’s on-screen son. McConaughey previously explained to PEOPLE that he initially tried to keep Levi's famous surname out of the audition process, allowing the teenager to be considered on his own merits.
