
Hayden Panettiere’s death at 36 has fans delving into her filmography, and some are only just learning that she was part of an iconic, Oscar-nominated Disney film in her youth.
The actress, who recently disclosed her adoration for her daughter, was pronounced dead following a 911 phone call made by ‘an acquaintance’ on Sunday (16 August).
A statement from the Greenville Police Department confirmed that medical personnel from South Carolina attended to her, but later pronounced her ‘deceased at the scene’.
“The case is under investigation by the Greenville Police Department in conjunction with the Greenville County Coroner's Office,” they confirmed.

The Hollywood star’s father, Skip Panettiere, has asked for privacy whilst calling his late daughter an ‘incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her’.

Hayden’s death has reminded fans and film fanatics alike of her varied filmography, which began on an episode of Aliens in the Family in 1996, as per IMDB.
She appeared in various commercials, including one for Wendy’s, and later starred as Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live.
But it’s a little-known Disney role that really has fans talking online.
Hayden Panettiere’s Disney roles
One X user, who goes by the moniker @mrpopofficial, shared an image taken from Hayden’s first-ever Disney film and wrote: “How many people first met Hayden Panettiere. Sweet Angel.”
And it appears that many social media users viewing the post are learning about the role for the first time.
“Are you fkn kidding me I didn’t even know. I’m crying all over my phone,” commented one fan.

A second said: “NO WAYYYY SHE WAS DOT OMG… Rest beautifully maam.”
“Didn’t even realise that. Earliest I remember is Malcom in the Middle with the crazy hair lol,” someone else added.
Years before Hayden appeared as Jessica on four episodes of Malcom in the Middle, she voiced Princess Dot, the cute young ant and tritagonist of Disney-Pixar’s animated film, A Bug’s Life.
The 1998 flick sees Dot, the younger sister of Princess Atta (voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus), striking up a friendship with Flik (Dave Foley), whom she helps defeat the oppressive, tribute-demanding grasshoppers, including ringleader Hopper (Kevin Spacey).

Hayden also lent her voice to Dot in A Bug’s Life: The Video Game.
She later collaborated with Disney on Remember the Titans, Tiger Cruise, and *Ice Princess—*she played rival ice skater Gen Harwood—among other projects.
For a time, the American also voiced Kairi and Xion, two Kingdom Hearts characters.
Hayden Panettiere's roles outside of Disney
The Disney darling is arguably best known for playing Claire Bennet in the TV series Heroes, the titular character in the 2009 flick I Love You, Beth Cooper, and cheerleader Britney Allen in Bring It On: All or Nothing.
She returned to the Scream franchise in 2023, reprising her role as Kirby Reed for the first time since Scream 4 in 2011.

Hayden claimed coming back was ‘one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life and my career’.
Her final roles include voicing Samantha in the video game Until Dawn, 2025’s A Breed Apart, and Sleepwalker, a psychological thriller written and directed by Brandon Auman.
The latter serves as the star’s last appearance in a feature-length film.
Hayden Panettiere's final Instagram post
On 27 July, the former child star posted what would become her final Instagram photo, featuring friend Randall Slavin.
The joyful black and white image showed Hayden with her tongue sticking out whilst the photographer had his arm around her.
“Good times and good friends @randallslavin,” the mother-of-one captioned the picture.
Since the news of Panettiere's death, the photographer has reposted the photo to his own Instagram story, along with the caption: "Peace be with you, H," and a red heart emoji.

Celebrities and long-time fans have used the image to share their thoughts and feelings following Hayden’s death.
Cruel Intentions actress Selma Blair wrote: “I’m dying. Please be here. I love you. Don’t be gone. Don’t be gone . Please. Please. I love you whale tail my friend.”
“I saw Hayden speak at her book tour last month in LA with a friend, and I also got to meet her—she was very nice. My friend and I literally said to each other that she didn’t sound well and looked off… and now she’s dead,” commented someone else.
A third Instagram user said: “I just seen you in May. We spoke, I also spoke to your publisher. I was there with you at @tamronhallshow it was a magical moment and then to be handed your book signed I will forever be grateful for that day. This is so heartbreaking. my condolences to EVERYONE.”

Hayden Panettiere is born to firefighter Skip Panettiere and Lesley Vogel, who would go on to be Hayden’s manager.
1990
Panettiere appears in a commercial at 11 months old, later landing recurring roles in soap operas as a child actor.
2004/2005
Aged 15, Panettiere said someone on her team started offering her ‘happy pills’. She later tells People: “They were to make me peppy during interviews.
"I had no idea that this was not an appropriate thing, or what door that would open for me when it came to my addiction.”
2006

2009

2013

December 2014
Panettiere and Klitschko’s daughter Kaya is born. Panettiere endures an incredibly difficult pregnancy, haemorrhaging during her c-section and being forced to undergo a three-hour surgery.
2015
Panettiere begins suffering severe post-partum depression. She later tells Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast: “I knew something was terribly, terribly wrong. I wasn't connecting with [Kaya] the way I should be.”
She uses alcohol to manage her mental health struggles and enters treatment when Kaya is four months old.
She later says she became dependent on medication to sleep, and then turned to drinking vodka.
2018
Klitschko presents Panettiere with custody papers asking for full custody of Kaya. After initially fighting back, she eventually accepts and Kaya goes to live with Klitschko in Ukraine.
