Ever since the bingeworthy second season of ITV's hugely popular detective drama The Bay dropped in January, fans have been left waiting in anticipation for the show to return for a third round.

Who's replacing DS Lisa Armstrong now that Morvern Christie's stepped down? Who killed Med? And what were they trying to cover up?

Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait to find out the answer to those last two questions.

Until then, let's take a look at the details we do know about the third season of The Bay - all aboard the hype train!

Do We Have A Release Date For The Bay Season 3?

Advert

Sorry, folks - there's no official release date for the show's third run.

That said, the Radio Times reported that filming kicked off last month (15 March), meaning we could just see the next installment on the small screen later this year...

Fingers crossed!

Innocent star Daniel Ryan will be reprising his role as DI Tony Manning for a new, gripping investigation.

He'll be joined by Erin Shanagher as DS Karen Hobson, Thomas Law as DC Eddie Martin and Andrew Dowbiggin as DS James Clarke.

And while DC Ahmed 'Med' Kharim met his brutal fate in season two, back in February the character's star Taheen Modak teased the possibility of his return.

When asked in an interview with the Metro about the potential to appear in a flashback sequence, he said: "Do you know what, I haven't thought about that at all you know. Oh my... that's great. That's a great idea."

Ahead of season three, ITV announced that star Morven Christie would not be back as DS Lisa Armstrong.

Since the character led the last two installments, fans were left wondering just who would replace Christie as the central figure.

This is one answer we do know, as it was recently announced that none other than Cobra star Marsha Thomason will join as new lead DS Jenn Townsend, Morecambe CID's new Family Liaison Officer.

But if Jenn came to Morcombe for a slower pace, she is set to be disappointed...

What's The Plot For The Bay Season 3?

The Bay's season three will see Jenn immediately thrown into the deep end after a body is found in the bay.

Per the official synopsis: "The detective will have to get under the skin of a grieving and complicated family if she has any chance of solving the premature death of an aspiring young boxer.

"While she's eager to give the family answers, she also needs to prove herself as the team's newest recruit.

"The pressure is multiplied when her new blended family struggle to settle in Morecambe, proving to Jenn that a fresh start might not be as simple as moving to a different town."

What Else Do We Know About The Bay Season 3?

Some fans have compared The Bay to crime drama Vera, which has had a whopping 11-season run.

Could this mean we'll see The Bay enjoy similar longevity? Award-winning writer Daragh Carville, who previously worked on Being Human, certainly doesn't rule out this possibility.

Speaking to the Express, Daragh said: "I'm gonna [have to get to] work!

"As I say, it [the show] was always conceived as a show that could return and there are certainly other stories that I want to tell in The Bay.

"So, I would really hope [it continues past season three]. Let's see how things play out, as ever, everything's in the lap of the Gods.

"But certainly there are other stories I'd like to tell. And I'd like to continue exploring these characters and exploring the world. I certainly hope it will run and run."

So do we - roll on season three!
