A mum-of-three has opened up about her 'midlife sexual awakening' after discovering her husband of 25 years was having an affair.

Channeling similar vibes to Nancy Stokes in Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, 50-year-old Kate Harvey decided to embark on a 'year of fun' after she found out that her ex-husband had been cheating on her.

Kate - a business owner, part-time actor and writer - has since opened up her sexual escapades in the year since divorcing her husband.

On an episode of SBS's Insight, Kate revealed her planned 'year of fun' actually turned out to be just that.

She said: "I went from being someone who had only slept with one man my entire life in January to double digits in December."

Kate admitted that she 'stopped counting' after a while, but predicts she probably slept with 'around 10 or 12' different people during her first year out of her divorce.

Kate found out her husband of 25 years was having an affair a few months before the coronavirus pandemic.

But where do you find a plethora of men to hop into bed with?

Dating apps of course. Although, Kate notes her experiences of online dating proved that they are 'as toxic and brutal as people talk'.

However, the 50-year-old also met some of her matches in real life too.

The question is, did Kate go full Nancy Stokes and decide to hook up with someone younger than her?

Kate met most people she slept with in her 'year of fun' on dating apps.

Yes, she did, with the youngest person being 28 and the oldest 48, but Kate found her 'sweet spot' with men between 38-44 years old.

She explains: "So, probably about 90 percent of them [older men] are not at that level of attractiveness i'm after at the moment.

"And then the last 10 percent they don't tend to be very demonstrative. they don't tell you you're attractive. They pretty much act like you're doing them a favour by being out with them.

"And there are times where I've been out on a first or second date and then got nothing from them afterwards."

The youngest person that Kate slept with was 28.

The past year has ultimately been a 'midlife sexual awakening' for Kate, who grew up in a time where 'sex was not a priority at all'.

"Now that I'm not in that relationship and there is time for me and to explore what I like, this is when it's come to the fore," she notes.

Kate doesn't deny the sex with her ex-husband was 'fulfilling' and 'fun at times', but now she's able to explore what she's 'excited to do' such as 'a little bit of rough play, role play' and 'using toys more'.

One things for sure, Kate's certainly making the most of her single life sex compared to the average Brit.
