If you haven’t noticed, the world is in the middle of a cultural ‘sex recession’.
That’s right, more and more people are choosing to abstain from their desires and becoming voluntarily celibate, with celebrities also hopping on the trend.
Among them is Khloé Kardashian, who revealed in the latest trailer for The Kardashians that in December 2025 she reached the milestone of four years of celibacy.
She parted ways with her ex Tristan Thompson, the father of her children, True, eight, and Tatum, four, for good in 2021 and has not publicly dated anyone since

In an interview with Elle in November, she explained: "It’s so easy to hook up with other people and distract yourself. When I was going through my breakup, it would have been so easy to deflect and hook up with someone else.
"I was like, 'Okay, why am I making these decisions? What am I doing in my life? I need to figure out what’s going on with me.'
And as we say, Khloe isn’t the only one to give abstinence a go, and a whole host of other famous faces have also publicly spoken out about straying from sex.
Maura Higgins

While discussing how she was betrayed by her US Celebrity Traitors pal, Love Islander Rob Rausch, Maura told Elite Daily in February: "I don't trust men anyway. If I wasn't used to that kind of guy, I reckon I would've been crying, storming out, never speaking to him again."
She continued: "But I've already got severe trust issues. I've been cheated on by the majority of my exes - that's the reason I've been celibate for a whole year."
Julia Fox

Julia Fox is another famous face who’s been candid about her celibacy journey, after she wrote on social media in 2024: “2.5 years of celibacy and never been better tbh.”
Then, in an interview with Glamour Magazine in October 2025, she elaborated on her reasons, one of which being that she ‘just can’t find anyone to f***’.
The model explained: “I don't know if celibate is the right word, because I think that has a lot of religious [connotations]. I just can't find anyone that I want to f**k. That's really what's happening right now, and it's a big problem - and I think a lot of women feel that way. So I think men need to just be more f**kable."
She also referred to the overturning of Roe vs Wade in the US as a reason to embrace celibacy, adding: “Our rights being stripped away from us, this is a way that I can take back control. And it just sucks that it has to be that way, but I just don't feel comfortable until things change.
“It just feels like such a gamble. It's high risk, very low reward. So, you know, something's gotta give.”
Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone is one of the more recent A-Listers to open up on choosing celibacy, explaining that now her kids are all grown up, she wants someone to be a ‘companion, not just someone to have sex with,’ as she’s ‘kind of bored with that.'
Speaking on Mayim Bialik's Breakdown podcast last month, she admitted: “I’ve been celibate for quite a while now because I’m just at the point where I really only want to be with someone that I care for.”
Justin Bieber

Before rekindling his romance with his now-wife Hailey in June 2018, Justin Bieber was celibate for more than a year, as he had ‘a legitimate problem with sex’ and abstaining made him feel closer to God.
As reported by Pop Sugar, he explained in 2019: "He doesn't ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff. He's like, 'I'm trying to protect you from hurt and pain.
“I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don't feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul.”
He added: “And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”
