London Named Best Destination In The World By TripAdvisor

While us Brits spend millions every year on travelling the globe to all sorts of exotic holiday destinations, we should probably be looking a bit closer to home as TripAdvisor hails our very own London as the best destination in the world.
The English capital managed to beat off stiff competition from the likes of Rome, Bali, Prague, Barcelona and Sydney for the website's annual Travellers' Choice Awards.
Justifying the top spot, TripAdvisor said on its website: "There's so much to see and do in London, it's easy to be overwhelmed.
"Major sights like the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace are on most visitors' itineraries, but no matter what your interests, you'll probably find something here. Art lovers should make a beeline for the National Gallery and the Tate Modern. If military history's your thing, don't miss the Cabinet War Rooms.
"Finally, forget everything you've heard about bland, mushy British food - the restaurant scene here is fabulous."
Hayley Coleman, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor, said: "The global fascination with Harry and Meghan clearly has a powerful effect as this is the first time since 2016 that London has topped the world rankings.
"With the couple's new baby due imminently, London may continue to reap the rewards of the Harry and Meghan effect into 2020."
Laura Citron, CEO of Visit London, said: "We are delighted to see London top the list of TripAdvisor's Global Traveller's Choice awards.
"London has an exciting history as a centre for creativity and free thinking, from Shakespeare to the birth of punk and the catwalks of today."

London was closely followed by Paris, Rome, Crete and Bali, which of course all sound like perfect holiday destinations.
