When out shopping for a new wardrobe, you want to be able to get the best deals possible, especially with the cost of living crisis tightening our wallets.

While many will head to bargain shops such as Primark, TK Maxx is certainly a good proposition for anyone looking to cop some designer gear on the cheap.

Something you probably haven't noticed on the labels of TK Maxx products is a number associated with them.

Typically above the price of the product, these numbers each have a particular meaning.

The meaning behind each of these codes was discussed by Alex Pavlova - who posted to TikTok under the name @beautyforeverybody.

In the short 10-second clip, Alex stands in a TK Maxx store, with a caption above her head saying 'what TK Maxx codes mean'.

The video has gone viral on TikTok with over 2.6 million views, 194,000 likes and over 400 comments.

The TikToker starts off by picking up a product with the number '1' on it, which she says is produced by TK Maxx themselves.

If an item is labelled with the number '2', then it is described as 'genuine unsold stock', meanwhile, a number '7' represents a product that 'was packed away from a previous year'.

The content creator concluded her video by telling her followers to look out for products labelled with a '2' and '7' for the best deals.

Number '1' apparently means the product is made by TK Maxx.

Many TikTok users admitted they were unaware of the numbers on TK Maxx products and the fact that they had a meaning behind them, too.

One person said: "I work at head office and didn’t know this."

A second added: "I don't even have TK Maxx here but I save this in case they open a shop."

And a third remarked: "As a person who just moved to England this is valuable information for me."

A former TK Maxx employee has actually said that the number '2' is the one to look out for when you are after a deal in the department store.

Speaking on Channel 5 documentary, TK Maxx: How Do They Do It? former senior merchandiser Daniel Baker explains how '2' is the 'exciting' number to look out for.

He said: “On any label, you can see a number. The number that is really exciting to a customer is number two because that means it’s genuine stock that was sold at a higher price somewhere else.

"It’s excess stock or something like that.

You really want to be looking out for number '2'.

“The main three codes are one, two, and seven. One means produced for TK Maxx, two is ‘close out buy’ that is unsold from another brand, and seven is ‘packaway’ which means it’s been packed for a previous year, like Christmas crackers bought in January for the following year.

"You can get good value for money on a type one. It could be that just the sheer volume they are producing means they can price it cheaper.

“The real bargains you are looking for are a two and a seven for sure. That’s also part of the treasure hunt when I got into a store as I’m constantly going ‘oh that’s a type two, that’s a real bargain there."

Tyla has contacted TK Maxx for comment.
