From sifting through hundreds of basically identical men to dealing with unsolicited comments, dating on Tinder or Hinge can be a nightmare - as Twitter user Thea Chippendale recently found.

The 20-year-old from North Lincolnshire took to Twitter to post a screenshot of a conversation with a man in which he had opened the chat with "Not gona lie you're a bit of a joke but that dress in the last photo isn't doing any favours.

"Hope this helps [thumbs up emoji]". We're sure you'll agree this unsolicited comment is pretty rude - and when Thea responded with "Excuse me?" the man rudely came back with "You heard!".

Thea wasted no time in responding and getting in a dig of her own - saying "Why did you feel like you needed to comment on it? Is your head that far up your arse that you thought your opinion mattered?"

Which is pretty fair, considering nobody asked him in the first place. He replied, pretty rudely, saying: "Literally had to tell you else I wouldn't of slept. It's awful you not reckon? Charity shop job! I tell you what.. GROW UP! And shop somewhere decent ! Thanks"

Naturally, Thea's feelings were hurt, so she took to Twitter to post the screenshot of the conversation alongside the picture of her ASOS dress. She said: "Men are trash. (Included the pic he's on about )" She quickly racked up tons of comforting responses, with users telling her the dress looked good and sympathising with her struggles.

Speaking to Pretty52, Thea said the conversation happened over Tinder and it was the first time they'd spoken. She said: "It did really upset me when he first sent it to me because, I understand that people have different opinions about what they see as nice or pretty, but he went out of his way to be mean to me? So I saw it as really malicious and cruel."

But she has found that the internet has been a great source of catharsis and support: "Since posting it on Twitter, there have been SO many people replying to the tweet and sending me messages and they're all just so lovely! I've never personally experienced something quite as bad as this, but I've definitely had my fair share of strange messages from people before."

We're just glad Thea stuck up for herself!
