Kim Kardashian responds to backlash over daughter North’s new look after concern from fans

The mother-of-four has hit back at criticism over fashion choices made by her eldest daughter

After her eldest daughter, North West last week showcased a startling new appearance online, Kim Kardashian has rushed to the youngster's defence.

Both the mother-of-four and her 12-year-old - whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West - found themselves at the centre of a scandal on Wednesday (22 October), after North shared her new look in a TikTok video.

For those who didn't catch wind of the controversy at the time, the pre-teen could be seen posing with electric blue braids, matching blue eye contacts, an unmissable set of false eyelashes, silver grillz on her teeth and a collection of heavy silver chains around her neck.

It wasn't these accessories that set tongues wagging, however, but North's new nose piercings, as well as a handful of facial tattoos, set on her cheeks just below her eyes.

"Fake piercings and fake tatts 4 life," the child captioned the clip.

Despite the vast majority of North's 19 million followers seemingly clocking onto the fact that she had made it clear the ink and the piercings were fake, it didn't stop both her and mum Kardashian, 45, from being dragged online.

"I'm sorry but isn't this too much for a 12 year old? I mean let kids be kids. 12 come on!" one critic hit out at the time.

Another added: "She can have a style, but this style looks ridiculously grown and not cute for a 12-year-old. Would you want your daughter walking around like this?!" A third also questioned: "Face tattoos at 12?"

As we say, however, SKIMS boss Kardashian has since defended her daughter's latest look after one outlet shared a link to their coverage of the controversy on social media, captioned: "North West, 12, worries fans with new look."

Taking straight to the comments, the reality TV boss hit out with a crying-laughing emoji: "This is such a non-issue."

During an appearance on the much-loved Call Her Daddy podcast earlier this month, Kardashian addressed her eldest child's adventurous sense of fashion, which she says is often inspired by her or rap star ex West's looks.

For reference, she filed for divorce from West, 48, in 2021 whilst citing 'irreconcilable differences' amid the musician's rise in unpredicatable far-right and often offensive behaviour, as well as his mental health struggles and public controversies.

The former couple are also parents to sons Saint, nine, and Psalm, six, as well as seven-year-old daughter, Chicago.

Of North's keen eye for style, however, Kardashian explained in the ep: "She's really mature in one sense where she'll be like, 'Mom, I saw this and I don't really care that they don't like... my blue hair or this or that'. She's really confident."

She added, however, that she'd appreciate being afforded 'a little bit of grace' over the way her child wishes to dress, admitting that mistakes do happen.

"I'm like, okay, we're never wearing that again," she continued. "Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world. As a mom, you're kind of like learning at the same time."
