After being rinsed online for her 'poor parenting', Kim Kardashian has defended her 12-year-old daughter's controversial decision to undergo a 'high risk' body modification procedure.

For those who didn't catch the celeb scandal, North West sported what appeared to be some new finger bling during a trip to Rome back in August.

Later, taking to TikTok last week, she confirmed what many fans feared - that she'd gotten two dermal piercings on her hands.

For reference, these specific piercings 'carry a high risk of complications' and 'require meticulous aftercare', Healthline experts emphasise, given the risk of rejection, migration, infection, scarring, snagging and nerve damage.

Unsurprisingly, North's latest accessory triggered mass uproar online, with one Reddit user slamming both North and her mother, writing: "I couldn't imagine giving my 12-year-old permission to have dermal and surface piercings like this, especially with the complications that come with them."

A second agreed: "Dermal piercings at 12 on your hand is wild. I'm all for letting kids express themselves, but not this, not at 12."

As we say, however, Kim has since hit back at allegations that she's a 'bad mother', sharing a simple statement on TikTok.

Her remark came in response to a video shared by one user, @mazzy_williams, who shared a photo of North's piercing, captioned: "What is going on #northwest #kardashians."

The social media critic had also written across the video: "North west getting a finger piercing is breaking my heart, just me?"

In an unexpected plot twist, the viral video seemingly reached the realms of reality TV, and after a few hours, Kim took to the comments of the video herself, writing, 'it's okay', alongside two love-heart-hand emojis.

This isn't the first time that the mother-of-four has been forced to defend herself against trolls who come for her daughter's aesthetic.

After North shared a TikTok video in October donning electric blue braids, matching blue eye contacts, a fake nose piercing and a handful of facial tattoos, Kim was told by one critic: "I'm sorry but isn't this too much for a 12 year old? I mean let kids be kids. 12 come on!"

Despite the youngster having emphasised that the tats were 'fake', another questioned: "Face tattoos at 12?"

And after one news outlet shared a story on North's look, captioned, 'North West, 12, worries fans with new look', Kim again hit out in the comments: "This is such a non-issue."

The SKIMS boss also discussed attacks on her parenting skills during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast recently, honing in specifically on North's adventurous style.

"She's really mature in one sense where she'll be like, 'Mom, I saw this and I don't really care that they don't like... my blue hair or this or that'," Kim explained. "She's really confident."

She went on to add that her eldest daughter is often inspired by her father, rap star Kanye West, from whom Kim filed for divorce in 2021, citing 'irreconcilable differences'. The split also came in the midst of the musician's rise in unpredictable far-right and often offensive behaviour.

Pleading with fans on the pod, Kim admitted she'd appreciate being afforded 'a little bit of grace' over the way her child wishes to dress, given that she is predominantly raising her four children alone.

Claiming mistakes happen, she continued: "I'm like, okay, we're never wearing that again. Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world. As a mom, you're kind of like learning at the same time."

The star - who also shares sons Saint, nine, and Psalm, six, as well as seven-year-old daughter, Chicago with estranged ex West, 48 - also hit back at claims she 'keeps the kids' from him.

"It's a divorce, not a kidnapping, we haven't left," she said bluntly. "We're in the same spot we have the same address so he knows where his kids are at.

"It's very confusing because it'll be all this talk on the internet about like I'm keeping the kids - he's never once called and asked. But I'll wake up and it's on Twitter that I'm keeping the kids, so it's just when it's not true and not rational."
