Kim Kardashian fans concerned as daughter North gets 'high risk' piercing

Less than a month after online trolls branded her a 'bad mother' for allowing her daughter to sport fake body art, Kim Kardashian is facing fresh fire for 12-year-old North West's latest body modification.

In a series of new photos and videos shared earlier this week, eagle-eyed onlookers clocked onto a piercing which experts in the industry have described as 'high risk', even for an adult.

Screengrabs of the controversial bling were subsequently shared online, inviting hordes of critics to slam mum Kim, 45.

For those in need of a reminder, this is far from the first time that the mother-of-four - who shares all of her children with rap star ex-husband Kanye West - has found herself in hot water for her daughter's style choices.

Back in October, North shared a TikTok video, where she could be seen donning electric blue braids, matching blue eye contacts, false eyelashes, silver grillz, and a collection of heavy silver chains, a fake nose piercing and a handful of facial tattoos.

Despite the youngster captioning the post, 'Fake piercings and fake tatts 4 life', Kim was rinsed online for the look, with one social media user hitting out: "Face tattoos at 12?"

Another added: "I'm sorry but isn't this too much for a 12 year old? I mean let kids be kids. 12 come on!"

Critics' fears for North have since skyrocketed after the youngster was seen this week with two dermal piercings embedded into her fingers - one, a pair of silver gems, the other, a blue stone.

The youngster was first spotted with a dermal piercing on her finger back in August when in Italy with her mom.

According to Stretch It Body Jewellery, dermal piercings are modern body modifications defined by a single point.

A small, flat base/anchor is implanted under the dermis layer of the skin, securing itself and serving as a miniature platform for your dermal jewellery.

The expert outlets adds that whilst this choice of piercing might be considered daring, it comes with a series of risks given that every body reacts differently to foreign objects.

Rejection can see the body's immune system attempt to fight against the anchor, whilst migration could see the latter move entirely into a different position, causing discomfort. The piercing itself could also become infected, and dermal anchor scars are almost a guarantee.

On top of this, there's the risk of snagging the piercing on clothing or bags, and even nerve damage if the anchor is inserted wrong.

With regards to placement within the finger specifically, Healthline agrees that both North and Kim have made a risky choice, given that these piercings 'carry a high risk of complications' and 'requires meticulous aftercare'.

After photos of the child's latest bodily amendment quickly began doing the rounds on Reddit, a number of users took aim at reality TV star Kim.

One claimed: "I couldn't imagine giving my 12-year-old permission to have dermal and surface piercings like this, especially with the complications that come with them."

"This is what happens when you need to be your child's best friend and not a rational adult," another wrote.

On the medical risks, a third added: "The potential for serious injury with this piercing is so unnecessarily high. Infection, rejection, nerve damage. A 12 year old is not mature enough to care for this piercing responsibly."

"Dermal piercings at 12 on your hand is wild. I'm all for letting kids express themselves, but not this, not at 12," another went.

Tyla has contacted Kim's reps for comment.
