Dog Owner's Warning After Pooch Sniffs Reed Refuser And Almost Dies

Every dog owner needs to read this.

A dog owner has warned others after his Spanish Water Dog, Henry, almost died after sniffing a scented reed diffuser.

Tim Rundle-Wood, 40, was freshening up his new flat and decided to buy some diffusers. But Henry, curious over the reeds, decided to have a sniff of one of the scented bottles.

Immediately, poor Henry became unwell. The pooch froze on the spot and his eyes glazed over. After Tim tried to move him, Henry squealed and started frothing at the mouth.

Tim rushed Henry to the vets where he was given emergency treatment.

“We moved into a new flat and to make it more homely I purchased Reed Diffusers from the local supermarket and put one n each room. Henry followed me around trying to get a sniff at what I was doing, so, not thinking anything of it, I let Henry sniff the Reed Diffuser, within seconds I knew something was wrong," said Tim.

“Henry began acting very strangely, so I tried to comfort him and saw that he was frothing at the mouth. He seemed to be frozen to the spot, so I tried to move him and he gave out a blood curdling squeal – it was at that point that I knew this was serious, so I called the vets imminently."

Henry was put into an induced coma and was able to return home after a week. Vets couldn't be sure what had caused the inhalation toxicity, but believed it to be one of the listed allergens, all of which were synthetic fragrances.

“I unearthed a shady world of synthetic fragrances mixed with nasty chemicals such as hormone inhibitors and petro-chemicals, all hidden legally under words like Fragrance, Aroma and Parfume," said Tim.

"This shook me to the core and I’d been let down by the brands I trusted, as I felt mislead by their packaging and marketing, which made me believe these products were made of natural ingredients”.

Once Henry had recovered, Tim was inspired to create his own diffusers - all made from natural products.

He created Twoodle Co Natural Home Scents in 2018, and now has a shop in east London, too.

All products are eco-friendly, plastic free and vegan and cruelty free. You can shop them here.
