If you're vegan, you'll be used to feeling left out when it comes to fast food choices, with many chains not offering anything vegan or even vegetarian amongst all the meat offerings.

But finally KFC has answered our prayers and announced the launch of a vegan chicken burger, and it looks finger lickin' good.

KFC

Known as the Imposter Burger, the tasty meat-free treat is a vegan version of KFC's classic Original Recipe Fillet Burger.

According to the chain, to make the burger, "KFC's customary real chicken breast fillet is replaced with a bespoke Quorn fillet, coated in the Colonel's Original Recipe herbs and spices, topped with fresh iceberg lettuce and creamy vegan mayo in a soft glazed bun". Mmm.

At this stage, The Imposter can only be enjoyed as part of a trial: the vegan meal will be available in selected restaurants in London, Bristol and the Midlands from 17th June for four weeks. The burger can also be enjoyed as a wrap or salad, and costs from £2.99 as a burger on its own.

A new vegetarian creation is also being trialled from 15th July in the same locations. Called the Southern Fritter Stacker, it will be available as a burger, as well as a wrap and rice box, with more details to be announced soon.

Victoria Robertson, who has the excellently-named title of Chief Vegetable Enthusiast at KFC UK & Ireland, commented: "We know... it's unfair. Vegans have been cruelly denied the incredible taste of KFC up to now, which is why we've worked hard to perfect The Imposter - a vegan burger that the Colonel would be proud of."

Dawn Carr, Director of Vegan Corporate Projects at PETA added: "We've been so excited to hear about this and play a part in KFC's journey to reaching this game-changing new vegan range. We're confident it will be a huge hit with the skyrocketing numbers of vegans, vegetarians, and flexitarians around the UK. Clucking marvellous!"
