We hate to break it to you, but there's an unwelcome new fashion trend on the horizon. Remember the combination of low-rise jeans and exposed tiny thongs, circa 1990? Well, it appears to be making a comeback in a very unsettling way.

Say hello to 'thong pants'. Yep, removing the need to buy the pants and jeans separately, thong pants are a 2-in-1 take on the unnerving trend. And ASOS are already all over it.

The croc print trousers are priced at £22 and are described as 'mid rise' with 'thong detail to back'. On the front, the trousers look like any other faux leather style, but the reverse is something very different, with the polyester material replaced with a black thong instead.

And another added: "Victorians! Let the absolutely absurdity of these thong pants on ASOS cheer you up - and pray that lockdown lasts long enough that we never have to see anyone wearing these out on chapel street on a Saturday night."

A third joked: "Personally I’d go for a different thong. A bit narrower perhaps."

And another wrote: "How much! Asking for a friend."

So could the trend stick? Will these styles be popping up throughout autumn?! Well, it seems like the 'exposed thong' trend has been creeping up on us all year.

Back in February, we told you how the visible thong had been spotted out and about, with celebrities including Dua Lipa, Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid and Kylie Jenner welcoming the trend with open arms. You can read all about that here.

If you ask us, some trends should stay well and truly in the past!
