As the temperature soars, it can play havoc with your hair and make-up.

Sure, everyone loves a heatwave if you can relax by the pool with an ice cold spritz or two, but if you’re having to battle your way into work or have a busy weekend, your hair can be left looking more ‘dragged through a bush backwards’ rather than ‘just stepped out of the salon’, with half of your carefully applied make-up down your face, and your shirt is sticking to your back.

Fortunately, Boots is here to save the day with a huge range of incredible hair and beauty products that'll make scorching summer days a breeze.

Plus, if you use a Boots Advantage Card, you can collect points when you pick up these hot weather holy grails, and new members can get 10 percent off when they spend £25 or more by signing up via the Boots app*. You’ll then collect three points per £1 with Advantage Card**. You can find out more here.

Must-have summer picks

Boots Beauty Crew expert Leanna says there's a hair product shoppers can’t get enough of, and ‘everyone’ comes in-store to stock up. “The trends change very quickly," she says, but adds that there is one item that has 'stayed very popular'.

We’ll race you to bag this in our basket, with Leanna advising everyone is loving the Kerastase Elixir Oil.

Haircare is back in a big way: “Everyone is on their healthy hair journey… Over the last year, this is what everyone is coming in for, and I don’t blame them!”

Beauty expert Leanna explains that it will help to add shine to your locks, working from root to tip, and can even help to create 'a healthier scalp’ too.

What’s not to love?

This lush elixir oil uses French wild camellia flowers, harvested by hand in Brittany.

Renowned for nourishing and softening, this oil boosts shine, reduces frizz, and makes hair touchably soft.

Suitable for all hair types, it features the iconic Kérastase scent too, so it’s no wonder it’s a best seller everyone is stocking up on.

One thrilled reviewer wrote on Boots.com: “WOW! I have fine blonde hair and it goes frizzy and a nightmare. I pumped it three times and ran it through my fresh washed hair and instantly it felt like silk and it smells lovely.”

AVEDA Shampowder Dry Shampoo Buy here

If the heat has left your hair looking lank, Leanna swears by the Aveda Dry Shampowder.

“I’d never used a powder shampoo before, but it was such a game changer for me!” she recalls. “It’s super easy to use, and I found it helped my greasy hair days. It’s as simple as shake and spritz in, it’s a squeeze bottle you just mist in.” If you’re heading off on holidays, this is ideal, she says: “Perfect for this time of year as well, as it won’t take up space in your liquids bag!”

Small but mighty, this dry shampoo powder (now known as the Shampowder, previously the AVEDA Shampure Dry Shampoo) packs a punch. Perfect for popping in your handbag for refreshing lank locks on the go, this Shampowder excels at absorbing excess oil, impurities and sweat while also adding volume and texture to your ‘do.

Plus, it’s 99% naturally derived from plant products and it’s vegan, with non-aerosol packaging.

Leanna’s other must-have items for summer are ‘a good SPF’ and ‘a hydrating mist’. And who doesn’t want gorgeous, glowy skin to go along with your healthy hair? Let the only rosy sheen come from your make-up, rather than sunburn this summer.

“My top picks would be the Ultra Violette Fave Fluid SPF 50, as it’s super lightweight and feels like a second skin,” raves Leanna. “Bonus, it sits so perfectly under makeup,” she adds.

Dubbed ‘skinscreen’, as a combination of skincare and suncream, this Fave Fluid received rave reviews. It combines a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ fluid (so it blocks all the bad rays), and it’s incredibly weightless on the skin.

Featuring niacinamide and Vitamin C, these both work in tandem to brighten skin while the SPF protects you from the sun’s rays this summer.

Non-sticky or tacky, it also helps to minimise pores, and smooth skin texture.

For a hydrating mist to keep you refreshed in the hot weather, the Beauty Crew expert recommends the Fenty Skin Dew & Plump Mist, with Leanna swearing it’ll ‘be your new best friend!’ as the temperature rises.

“It’s enriched with hyaluronic acid and glycerin to give you that plump freshness,” she promises.

This mist makes light work of keeping you cool as things heat up and is packed full of polyglutamic and hyaluronic acids, as well as moisture barrier-boosting betaine and glycerin.

Rihanna herself says of the wonder product: "I like to think of Dew N Plump Mist like a spray-on serum. One spray and my skin already looks plumper and more hydrated."

It can be sprayed on clean skin, or over make-up, the choice is yours!

Boots now also stocks the smash-hit P.Louise range, and if you’re bored of the ‘clean girl’ aesthetic and are calling out for some colour in your life, there’s one collection Leanna thinks you’ll love.

“The P.Louise Creative Comeback palette, I really think colour is making a comeback and I think Zara Larsson’s makeup artist Sophia Sinot had a massive part to play in this,” she says.

“For years we’ve been using neutrals and loving the clean girl aesthetic but there’s something about the way she made all the looks so unique and playful that caught people’s attention,” adds Leanna.

“People are actively looking for more colourful palettes, liners, etc and I think this P.Louise palette is going to be super popular. The range of colours is unmatched and the pigments are incredible! With 150 shades to match play with the looks will be endless,” so it seems more is definitely more this summer.

With a whopping 150 shades, you get a serious bang for your buck with these stunning rainbow hues.

With 100 creamy mattes and 50 wet shimmers, whether you’re a make-up pro or a newbie who wants to have fun with colour, this is a must-have for any make-up fans.

Say goodbye to boring beige with this vibrant shades, perfect for festival season.

Vegan and cruelty-free, these blendable shades can be used to build any look.
