Hailey Bieber delivers 00s nostalgia with must-have zig zag hairband

Few celebrities have the same sartorial influence as Hailey Bieber right now.

Everything the A-lister wears has TikTokers in a chokehold, whether it's her latest nail polish or Rhode blush.

But Hailey's latest style moment might surprise you.

This week, the 29-year-old shared a wholesome photo dump of her summer so far, and in three of the photos she can be seen wearing a throwback accessory.

Instantly recognisable to millennials, the plastic zig zag hairband is something you would have picked up at Claire's on your way home from school.

For those of you born in the nineties, you'll remember it was famously worn by the likes of Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. It was even seen on the pitch, all thanks to David Beckham. Or perhaps you remember Keira Knightley's take on the trend in Bend It Like Beckham?

Reminiscent of the early noughties, it's designed to keep hair out of your face and is arguably more fun than your standard bobble.

In the images, Hailey demonstrates how to wear the Y2K accessory for all occasions too, from workouts to errands.

But the Rhode founder isn't solely responsible for bringing the hairband back with Bella Hadid recently spotted out and about in the zig zag accessory, too.

How to style the zig zag hairband in 2026

A far cry from butterfly clips, the zig zag hairband is a delightfully simple throwback accessory to try this summer.

The budget headband can be styled with your hair up or down (bonus noughties points if you pair it with a claw clip), and seems like a pretty chic way to hide greasy roots if you ask us.

"From a styling perspective, it's easy. Simply put the headband in and push it back to get a nice height into the hair, and then style the rest around it," Philipp Haug, co-founder of Haug London Haus, says. "You can pull it up to get a bit more height, or push it as far back as you like depending on how much you want to get the hair out of your face.

"If you want more height, place it nearer the front. If you want it flatter, place it nearer the back," he adds. "This style is also really nice when done on a wet look, which is perfect for the hot weather, as you can also use a heat protection product or a deep conditioner to create it.

"I wouldn't be concerned about damage using this type of accessory, but if you feel any sort of tugging or ripping when putting it in then stop, give your hair a brush through, and start again."
