'I tried the viral £140 Molly-Mae blazer - here's what I really thought about it'
If you’re always on TikTok or constantly online shopping (or both), you’ll know that there’s been a surge in shoulder pads, and it seems the iconic 80s trend is making a comeback.
But instead of neon blazers with giant shoulder pads, we’re seeing them being used to elevate clothing like t-shirts, jackets and even jumpers to make them look more expensive and timeless.
Me personally? I’ve never been a fan of shoulder pads on myself.
I love the look on other women, however, because it really gives that clean girl, Victoria Beckham, expensive look to clothing that can be fairly inexpensive.

When I try anything with a shoulder pad, though, I look like Travis Kelce at the Super Bowl…
Anyway, after scrolling on TikTok, I came across a video from IT girl, Farron Clark, wearing the Maebe Tailored Every Wear Blazer with giant shoulder pads.
Now these shoulder pads were HUGE!!! But I was quite intrigued.
The comments were fairly harsh about it; some said the shoulder pads were ‘horrendous’ and asked if she was ‘being serious’.
Others called the blazer ‘poorly constructed’ and compared it to that one video of Kanye West wearing the giant square costume.
She did later admit she may have gotten a size too big, and showed the blazer she got that was her actual size.

Regardless, I wanted to try the ‘silly’ blazer, so I got it, and here’s what I really thought about it.

I got it in black and in a size 10, as I am usually a size 10 at the majority of places I shop.
When I first tried it on, it fit like a glove.
The length is neither cropped nor oversized, just normal and the waist is cinched in, which was my favourite feature. I love a cinched waist, I think particularly for blazers.
Now, the quality itself was great; it retails at £140, which is obviously a bit more expensive than some blazers on the market, but it felt premium. It also has four buttons, which sounds really niche, but I think four buttons over two also makes the item look more premium.
The garment also has a button on the inside, which helps with the cinched waist.
There is also a pocket on the breast of the blazer with a black M (for Maebe, not Molly) stitched on, again adding to that premium feel. The lining of the jacket, the extra added buttons you’re provided with and even the white satin label on the inside made the item feel way more luxurious than your average Zara blazer.
Now for the shoulder pads…
If you stick true to your size, the shoulder pads are a nice add-on and don’t look ridiculous at all!
I imagine if you did size up, you would start to maybe look a bit silly. I really love the shoulder pads, and they didn’t feel too much despite me having a small head.
I also put it to the test and wore it on a day out.
After stepping out of my house, one of my neighbours actually commented and said I looked 'really fancy', quite the compliment!
Weirdly, considering it’s black and rather heavy, I didn’t feel hot, and the day I wore it, it was about 20 degrees out (despite it being autumn now).
You also don’t need to keep it buttoned up, it looks nice left open to.
I paired it with some blue jeans and it really elevated the outfit.
It’s a timeless, capsule wardrobe piece that would definitely go with black trousers, blue jeans, capri pants, track pants - to give that Molly-Mae vibe, or even a satin dress.
I also wore the blazer to lunch with my friends, a few of which were skeptical of the quality of Maebe after seeing *that* video but after seeing it IRL they were obsessed!
One friend mentioned the "quality looks amazing", with another adding that "it looks so sophisticated and expensive".
Overall, the feedback was really positive with everyone noting that it looked really high-end and I also felt like an influencer, or Molly-Mae herself!
Whilst I think it is on the pricier side, I do feel that it is a better quality blazer as oppose to others I have tried from different brands.
If you’re looking for a staple wardrobe piece for this fall, I definitely would recommend trying it!
