The ‘cousin walk’ explained as Thanksgiving trend is more than just a stroll

Get ready to hear lots of 'cousin walk' chatter this Turkey Day

Thanksgiving, and all the turkey-eating, parade-watching and football-playing that comes with it, is finally here.

Despite there being some Mandela Effect theories over the actual date of the festive holiday, it is, of course, taking place tomorrow (27 November), with many across the United States aew beyond excited to gather with their loved ones to express their gratitude for their many blessings.

As we say, Thanksgiving is a time when families come together - including all those aunties, uncles, grandparents and cousins from your extended family.

However, you may want to keep your ears peeled for the inevitable 'cousin walk' code word being used before, during or after your gathering, as the controversial trend is a whole lot more than just an innocent stroll down the road.

A newly-released Wall Street Journal article rounded up exactly what actually goes down during the walk and that is, simply put, smoking marijuana.

Yep, a 'cousin walk' is merely gathering a bunch of your age-appropriate family members and huffing on the devil's lettuce right before digging into your Thanksgiving feast.

As per the outlet, 36-year-old Priyanka Pulijal shared that she and her relatives just 'give each other a look' and ask if they’re ready to go on the walk.

"We have a couple puffs and just laugh about something, roll our eyes at our silly uncle, just have a good time," she said.

Meanwhile, Chris Sayegh, a 33-year-old Los Angeles chef who cooks with cannabis, also told the outlet that the best stories are shared during that walk and not around the Thanksgiving dinner table.

"Looking back on this, it’s some of the very best times in life," he reminisced.

After catching light of the trend being exposed online, many participants of the infamous 'cousin walk' activity rushed to social media to share their thoughts.

One Instagram user penned: "Tell me you’ve never gone on a cousin walk without telling me."

"We know! Can’t anything just stay sacred? Why do you gotta write an article about everything?!" hit out a second.

Ouch.

A third fumed: "Is nothing sacred anymore? Some rituals are better left unouted by the press."

Double ouch.

"They gentrified the cousin walk!" exclaimed a fourth.

"It’s how we survive this day," joked a fifth while another chimed in: "Wait, we are doing this AFTER dinner? I’m gonna need to do a before-dinner walk…"

And a final Instagram user resolved: "Best way to bring fam together!"
