Donald Trump pardons two turkeys again after claiming Joe Biden failed to last year

Trump took aim at his predecessor at his Thanksgiving pardon event

President Donald Trump has given two turkeys a double pardon for Thanksgiving after once again taking a hit at his predecessor, Joe Biden.

There’s nothing like telling a turkey it’s not going to be on the menu this year, which is something US presidents have been doing for decades as part of their Thanksgiving tradition.

Trump stood in the garden of the White House yesterday (25 November) ahead of Thanksgiving with an impressive guest list to announce the pardoning of turkeys Gobble and Waddle.

But alongside this, he announced that after an ‘investigation’, it was found that his predecessor Joe Biden hadn’t actually officially pardoned last year’s birds, Peach and Blossom, so they need to be pardoned too.

It comes after Trump had claimed via his social media platform earlier this year that Biden allegedly used an autopen to sign his signature during his time in the White House.

Previously, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "The person who was the real President during the Biden years was the person who controlled the Autopen!"

Now, at the turkey event in aid of the US holiday, he brought up the autopen controversy and claimed a ‘thorough and very rigorous investigation by Pam Bondi and all of the people at the Department of Justice, the FBI, the CIA and the White House Counsel’s Office’ had found that Biden had used an autopen to pardon Peach and Blossom.

“I have the official duty to determine, and I have determined that last year’s Turkey pardons are totally invalid,” Trump said, which was met by laughter from the crowd.

“They’re hereby null and void, the turkeys known as Peach and Blossom last year have been located, and they were on their way to be processed. In other words, to be killed.” Have a listen here:

However, Trump then revealed he had ‘stopped that journey’ and was ‘officially pardoning’ them ‘in the nick of time'.

To this, people had mixed thoughts.

On X, someone wrote: “Sorry but we’ll never have this much fun ever again," as another said: “So it's the holiday season, and his thoughts have yet again turned to Biden.”

Someone else wrote: “I love his sense of humour.”

The president went on to talk about ‘the biggest tax cuts in the history of our country for middle-income people’ that he claims his administration has granted.

He also thanked the National Turkey Federation chairman and the CEO of the turkey farming company, Butterball, for attending before turning to the turkeys at the White House.

That’s when he joked: “When I first saw their pictures ... I was going to call them Chuck and Nancy. But then I realized I wouldn’t be pardoning them, I would never pardon those two people. I wouldn’t pardon them.”

The names were, of course, in reference to Democrats Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.
