Netflix users have been binge-watching Harlan Coben's highly anticipated new thriller, however, some have been left divided over one particular issue.

The five-parter made its debut on the streaming service on New Year's Day, following on the heels of Fool Me Once, which starred Michelle Keegan.

The new show follows Katy Donovan (played by Rosalind Eleazar), who discovers her long-lost partner on a dating app, despite having not seen him for a decade.

The cast includes stars such as Top Boy's Ashley Walters, Eastenders' Jessica Plummer, Rosalind Eleazar, Richard Armitage and Lisa Faulkner.

Comic Sir Lenny Henry and Cold Feet favourite James Nesbitt also feature alongside Busted’s Matt Willis.

While the cast has generally been given a thumbs-up by viewers, it seems some aren't as convinced by their on-screen chemistry.

In a review for The Independent, Nick Hilton gave the show - called Missing You - a paltry two stars.

He wrote: "Of course, nobody, at this point, watches a Harlan Coben adaptation for the gripping interpersonal chemistry. This is television for the shattered attention span.

"Every few minutes there's a new twist to trigger the dopamine receptors in your brain and try to keep you from doom scrolling on Instagram for another few minutes, until the next twist."

The TV critic went on to say: "There's a sort of intellectual dishonesty to basing so much of your narrative on faulty information, but viewers won't care so long as the cliffhangers and gasp-inducing revelations keep coming. It's not subtle, but it is effective."

Over in The Evening Standard, Hayley Spencer wrote: "So as long as you're not expecting small screen mastery, or indeed the performance of year (it is the first of January after all) then do go forth and gobble up this latest Coben drama.

"It will fill the void on this final languid sofa day of the festive season. And give you plenty of opportunities for some second screen-time alongside watching - this is not drama that needs your undivided attention."

However, fans on social media appear to be enjoying the show.

One tweeted: "Harlan Coben's Missing You is an impressive thriller series that will raise your curiosity since the 1st episode.

"Just finished binge watching for all 5 episodes today. It's a must watch!! 10/10!"

Another said: "Currently watching @HarlanCoben #MissingYou on Netflix ... so far so good."

These sentiments were echoed by a third viewer who wrote: "Binged watched Missing You on Netflix today, it was sooo good!"

One fan's praise was something of a backhanded compliment as they said: "#MissingYou is a classic Harlan Coben adaptation. Same actors playing different roles, awful dramatic pauses, dreadful dialogue and shocking acting. Yet you still watch it for some reason."

Missing You is available to stream on Netflix now.
