Netflix fans urged to binge-watch intense new drama if they liked Fool Me Once

From the creators of Fool Me Once comes a brand new Netflix thriller perfect for binging on New Year’s Day.

On January 1 2023, Netflix dropped an eight-episode rollercoaster called Fool Me Once, starring Michelle Keegan as former military captain and helicopter pilot Maya Stern Burkett.

If you’re one of the 107.5 million viewers who tuned into the nail-biting programme, then you’ll be pleased to hear another Harlan Coben adaptation is on the horizon—and it’s a masterclass in mystery and deception.

The new show, based on Coben’s 2014 novel of the same name, sees Slow Horses actor Rosalind Eleazar stepping into the shoes of protagonist Detective Kat Donovan.

She discovers that some secrets are best left in the past when she mysteriously matches with her fiancé Josh (Ashley Walters) on a dating app—the same man who went ‘missing’ from her life 11 years ago.

“While Kat investigates the case of a missing person, Josh’s reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past,” an official synopsis for the show reads.

As well as Eleazar, the limited-series stars Marc Warren, Neon Jungle alumna Jessica Plummer, and The Hobbit’s Richard Armitage.

Comic Sir Lenny Henry and Cold Feet favourite James Nesbitt also feature alongside Busted’s Matt Willis.

The Netflix offering is called Missing You and you can check out the trailer for it below:

Ahead of Missing You’s premiere on January 1, lead actress Eleazar has spoken out about how it feels to star in the streaming adaptation of Coben’s book.

She has also touched on whether she feels pressure to follow up Keegan’s award-winning performance in Fool Me Once.

“Hilariously, I got this job before Fool Me Once came out,” she told The Mirror. “And then when Fool Me Once came out... I mean, it's been watched by everyone - like, the population of America or something ridiculous. [It was] such a huge success.

“So of course, there's a part of you that goes, 'Oh f**, I hope I...' But weirdly, that quickly goes away, because you're just doing what you have to do.

"But I obviously hope that it will be as successful as Fool Me Once," she continued. "They're completely different stories.”

She added that although Missing You is the ninth collaboration between Netflix and Coben, this one feels ‘smaller, more tender and more intense’ compared to its predecessor.

Fans are getting excited ahead of Missing You’s release, with one taking to social media to write: “I’m already there!”

A second commented: “Already Hooked. Still getting over Fool Me Once [& The Stranger]... @HarlanCoben Brilliant.”

Another said: “@HarlanCoben always releasing on New Years to start the year in a good way!”

“I began reading your books when #RichardArmitage starred in #TheStranger and to date it remains my favorite of the series. It might not be the typical way readers 'discover' you, but it's made me a fan for life. Looking forward to #MissingYou,” replied someone else.

Missing You is slated for a January 1, 2025 release via Netflix.
